I am blessed to have hired him for this project and hope to use him again in any further projects I would have. I highly recommend him. "People like Ed McDonald are the reason we left the big city to a smaller town. Nothing more than a verbal agreement and his crew completed a 5000sq ft job in one day to include sealing it. My wife was so excited she wanted me to get out of bed just to see the reflection from the street light. I only wanted half the driveway done this year but Ed "made me an offer I couldn't refuse". Couldn't have asked for an all around better experience."

Small jobs welcome

"SM Paving & Sealcoating did an excellent job for The Arc of Lagrange County. First of all they gave us a great price. They did 2 small residential jobs for us and a commercial parking lot for us. They worked around our schedule, which really meant a lot to us. They are very efficient. They have great customer service, and they always responded in a timely manner. We will definitely be using them again. Thank you to Jay and all of your crew for all that you do."

Asphalt Driveways questions, answered by experts

If you notice minor cosmetic problems with your driveway, you should seal it. Look out for cracks and holes on the surface, faded asphalt or concrete, and stains from oil and other chemicals. Replacing your driveway may be necessary if you’re dealing with significant problems—¼-inch cracks, large potholes, and puddles from drainage issues. The cost to install an asphalt driveway typically ranges between $4,200 and $9,000, significantly more than resealing. Consider talking to a professional to discuss whether resurfacing your driveway—a midway project between resealing and replacing—is a better option for you.

DIY is not recommended due to equipment and expertise requirements. Professional services ensure durability and proper grading.

Sealing coat asphalt after 6-12 months and then every 2-3 years is recommended.

Asphalt dries and cures best between 50 and 85 degrees Fahrenheit. This range allows moisture to evaporate quickly without causing the asphalt to cool too fast, which can negatively affect the drying process. However, keep in mind that other weather conditions can also affect curing and drying times, such as precipitation and humidity.

While some areas may allow for a slope of up to 20%, this is often the maximum slope for driveways, with a few exceptions of up to 25%. Other regions may have a maximum of 12%, 15%, or 18%, so check with your local building department to ensure you’re laying a driveway that is up to code for your location.
