"All Service Moving was exceptional. Great customer service - easy to schedule and flexible. Royce & Frost did an AMAZING job moving all of our very heavy and fragile belongings. They handled all of our requests and items with care and worked both efficiently and quickly. They were super friendly and very customer service oriented. I can't thank them enough for the GREAT job they did. I highly recommend All Service Moving for anything moving and/or storage related. And DEFINITELY request Royce & Frost to handle your job. "⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ We've hired Pete Boutillier's Junk Removal Company for multiple projects, and every experience has been excellent. Pete is professional, dependable, and reasonably priced. He shows up when he says he will, works hard, and always gets the job done efficiently. What really sets Pete apart is his ability to tackle challenging jobs. No job seems too big or complicated, and he's an excellent problem solver who doesn't need constant direction. He's a true self-starter who takes initiative and finds solutions when unexpected issues arise. If you're looking for someone who is reliable, hardworking, affordable, and easy to work with, we highly recommend Pete and his team. We wouldn't hesitate to hire him again for future projects!"

"Livingston and his team addressed five projects within one day, all to perfection and with attention to detail that I had not even anticipated — and all within the cost of the estimate! Livingston communicated clearly, arrived with every bit of the tools and supplies necessary to complete all five jobs and worked as a team to address any problems that came up. Livingston and his team are all experienced, safety-conscious, and independently minded professionals, who additionally were unfailingly positive and courteous. This is perhaps the most amazing experience that this disabled veteran has had with a contractor. Livingston is an outstanding planner, communicator, and leader. I highly recommend anyone with home-related needs to turn to him first when entrusting your home repairs to someone in the field."

Moving questions, answered by experts

Start by removing any obstacles in the moving path, such as side tables, lamps, or other furniture. If your couch has legs, unscrew them. Measure the couch and the stairway to ensure you have enough room; if it seems unlikely, examine the shape and size of the couch and decide whether it might fit better up the stairway and through doorways on its side, held diagonally, or moved in an upright position.

Consider putting the sofa on a dolly to go up the stairs. It should be able to fit upright on a standard dolly with wheels. You’ll still need to lift the dolly—with the couch on it—up the stairs, but it will reduce the physical strain. The person holding the dolly should pull the couch up, while the helper should be on the other side, keeping the couch secure and steady.

If you don’t have a dolly, the person in front should lift the couch slightly higher than the person in the back to create more stability. The person in the back should also be the stronger mover, as most of the weight will be distributed there.

You can’t start preparing for movers too soon. Some steps, like scheduling the movers and arranging for pet care, need to happen months ahead to fit into busy schedules, especially if you’re moving during on-season.

Several weeks ahead of the moving date, start packing lesser-used rooms and supplies. As the moving day gets closer, move your packing toward more and more essential rooms until only a few necessities are left on the day ahead of the move.

You should transfer utilities at least two weeks before your final move-out date. It is best to schedule the turning off of all utilities 24 hours after your move. Doing so will ensure a smooth transition without any gaps in service while you are still living in the home.

How long it takes to move into an apartment depends on many factors, including the amount of belongings you’re bringing with you, how accessible the apartment is (do you have an elevator, or will you be walking up and down several flights of stairs with boxes?), and whether or not you’re hiring a moving company. Having said that, for a local one-bedroom apartment, it usually takes a moving company between two and five hours to move you in.

You can calculate the cost of moving by evaluating your home size, the weight of your belongings, distance, and the method of moving. You’ll also want to account for moving company fees, cost of supplies, gas prices, storage fees, insurance, and more. To get the most accurate estimate for your upcoming move, get price quotes from several moving companies in your area.
