Since 1947 we have been serving residential and commercial customers in the Greater Bangor Area. Our business has evolved into a complete nursery and garden center. We have an extensive product line from plants, trees and shrubs, containers and garden accents, supplies, and gifts. If you don’t see what you want we may be able to order it for you. And don’t let the rain keep you away. We have covered outdoor exhibits as well as a large greenhouse and store where you can browse. We are the plant people, and we love what we do! Sprague’s offers a complete Garden Center. With thousands of square feet of greenhouse space and acres of growing area, we are able to supply high quality plants hardy to this area. - Our retail center carries the supplies you’ll need to create or maintain your perfect garden. - Our knowledgeable staff is always available to help you with your plant questions and needs. - Our greenhouses are always packed full with an excellent selection of plants.

Large hedge plants and roses are called bare-root plants, meaning they have not been potted. Finally, you will see some burlapped plants, typically larger trees and shrubs with burlap wrapping around the bottom.
The best time to plant is between spring and autumn. Springtime weather is typically mild and is when nurseries start to bloom. When the summer weather arrives and it’s hot out, it’s best to avoid planting bare-root plants, but you can still plant many in-container varieties. The first sign of fall is another great opportunity to plant biennials if you live in southern states, or a lovely vegetable garden up north.
If you’re hiring a landscaper to plant the garden of your dreams, you do not need to provide them with plants that you bought yourself from a nursery. While you certainly can provide your landscaper with plants, keep in mind that some nurseries provide discounts to landscaping companies, therefore potentially lowering your materials cost. Beyond the cost of the plants themselves, you need to have additional materials like topsoil and mulch for the project. Most likely, your landscaper can get a discount on these materials as well, so it’s worth speaking with them before making any large purchases.
