Small jobs welcome

"Darrell did an outstanding job at a very reasonable price. He surveyed the existing insulation and recommended an additional amount to go from R-30 to R-60. He also performed additional work in accessing a sun room attic from the outside and blowing in fiberglass to R-60 at no extra charge. We notice the difference in heat retention in the home already. Looking forward to lower heating costs this coming winter. We highly recommend his company for your insulating needs!"

"This was our first time using Apollo Insulation and Geremy and Dennis did an excellent job removing our old (rodent droppings and urine) insulation. They disinfected and repaired any damage caused by the rodents. New insulation was blown in and we couldnâ t be happier. From the initial inspection and quote Geremy was on top of keeping us informed on what would be done to complete the job. Apollo Insulation cleaned up behind them inside and outside leaving our home with no mess. The price was very reasonable and we were very pleased and satisfied with the quality of the work. I highly recommend Apollo Insulation for any of your insulation needs. Very hardworking and professional service company. Bill and Anne G Wayne, Maine"

"Woke up to major water damage on a Sunday. I called Octagon and they were on site within 2 hours. They immediately set up to control the damage and handled everything with regard to my insurance claim. The staff were extremely professional and very pleasant. They arrived on time and kept me informed every step of the way. They clearly went above and beyond to make sure the job was done right. Their expertise is obvious and the caring they have for the customer is evident. Once I called them, all I had to do was wait till my house was dry again, they handled everything. would recommend Octagon with out any reservation! Cost of $2500 reported is full cost, I only paid the insurance deductible."

"I have a heat pump as my primary heating and cooling device for the house. Late last Winter I noticed it was running alot and my house was still pretty cold. I called BRF and explained my concerns. The owner of the company personally came out to make sure the job was done correctly. He quickly identified a leak in my old system and was able to repair it. He then took extra care to make sure an adaquate vacuum was pulled on the system before topping it back up. The result was a huge bump in efficiency and rooms that are ice cold on the hottest days. I've only had to use the heat function once since the fix and it will drive you out of the house. The best part is that while we were waiting on the vacuum pump to do its job, he also gave me helpful information on increasing the efficiency in my home all around. It's pretty clear that he knew what he was doing and has a vast knowledge of the state run incentive programs."

"Roberto was the technician and he was very professional, polite, and personable. He inspected the rest of our system and told us things that needed to be changed or repaired. He showed me pictures of everything. Everything he told me about was accurate. He quoted me a price for R38 insulation , Some of our ducts were plastic and he recommended them to be changed. I agreed completely and didn't know they were plastic. I would have had them done the work but I had no price comparisons to make and besides I didn't have the money right then. So he just finished the vent cleaning and left his card. He did a great job on the vent cleaning and was happy with the work."

Insulation questions, answered by experts

Insulation can be easy to install, depending on the condition of your walls, but there are many safety considerations and potential challenges involved. For example, most types of insulation are made from materials that can cause irritation if inhaled or if they come into contact with your skin. Additionally, installing insulation incorrectly can actually make moisture issues in your home worse.

Actually, condensation can mean that your windows are more energy efficient because the seal keeps cold air out and warm air in. In some cases, windows with poor seals can lead to more condensation, but they may allow the cold and warm air to mix and reduce condensation. If you’re worried about whether or not your windows are properly insulated, have a pro assess them.

It's essential to use insulation materials specifically designed for air ducts. Common types of duct insulation materials include fiberglass, foam board, and reflective foil. These insulation materials have the right properties to withstand the temperature and airflow conditions within the ductwork. Using the appropriate insulation not only ensures efficient temperature control but also prevents potential safety hazards or the release of harmful particles into the air.

No, 55 degrees Fahrenheit is not too cold for a house, as it’s a temperature that will keep your pipes and appliances from freezing. Well-insulated homes can even go to 50 degrees, but check with an HVAC pro before opting for such a low temperature. Stick to 55 degrees to be on the safe side.

The average U.S. homeowner pays $1,850 to insulate their home. However, the cost of insulation depends on the type, the size of your home, and who does the installation work.

The cost of foam board insulation depends on whether it's made from expanded polystyrene (EPS) or extruded polystyrene (XPS). EPS has the lower price point, usually costing between $0.25 and $0.50 per board foot, while XPS costs between $0.40 and $0.50 per board foot.
