While "blood" red was considered a "fright or flight" evoking color or symbol of power, home in a thatched shelter of green palm fronds and having some protection from the lush green background vegetation, there was generally peace and relaxation. Shrinkage in concrete stems from the evaporation of water from the mixture as it cures. Contractors mix concrete with the proper amount of water to account for a set level of shrinkage. When the process happens unevenly between the top and lower layers of concrete, shrinkage cracks are bound to form.

Additionally, dry pour concrete is less durable and less resistant to cracking and concrete sinking, so dry pouring over an existing slab may result in surface imperfections appearing prematurely.

It is not advisable to pour concrete directly on dirt. Even compacted soil—known as a subgrade—is not strong enough to maintain the form of concrete. You can, however, pour concrete over concrete as long as the overlay has proper bonding agents and the slab below is clear of damage.

Yes, you can pour new concrete over old concrete, but you need to apply a concrete bonding agent to the existing concrete to ensure the new concrete sticks. Keep in mind that even with a bonding agent, large cracks and other flaws will still come through. If the concrete has heaved, settled, or cracked, pouring new concrete on top won’t address any root structural problems. Removing the existing concrete and rebuilding will be your best solution in that case.
