"They had given me an estimate about a year and a half ago and was able to hold on that price. The gutters are seamless and they attached them with no problems. They unclogged the other gutter and plugged a hole that some birds had formed and were trying to build a nest in the gutter. Reattached a clip that the painters missed. The next time it rained I checked the re-routing that was now funneling to a drain and the water had found a way to back feed. I called them and asked to try a different way of funneling into the downspout. They came out in the next couple of days and did what I asked, at no charge, and the problem was resolved. Really nice people to work with!!"

"I compared The Roof Doctors to other companies and their response was much better than anyone else's. They were quick to respond and they were willing to come out and check things out. They gave me an estimate but they gave me three different options, depending on the quality of the shingle that I chose. I wanted some other stuff, including adding venting to the soffits. They responded quickly, we set it up. They came on time, got it done in two days and they did a great job. It was done very quickly and efficient. It was very well done. The roof is guaranteed, so I feel confident that if I have a problem, they would respond quickly."

Gutter Repair and Replacement questions, answered by experts

If you don't want to install gutter guards, the most common and inexpensive alternative is regular gutter cleaning, either annually, biannually, or as soon as they start to fill up. Using a leaf blower attachment can make this process easier. Other products designed to reduce cleanings include gutter screens (made of wire mesh, nylon, or foam), which are typically less expensive than a full gutter guard installation. You can also find guards and inserts designed specifically to protect your downspouts or opt for a whole gutter system like LeafGuard, which integrates the gutter and guard into a single product.

Poor gutter drainage can cause sagging gutters, roof damage, mold, mildew, rot, basement flooding, and foundation cracks. With gutter replacement costs possible for just $500, getting the right system can save you thousands in repairs down the road.

In most cases, it makes more sense to repair leaking or damaged gutters than it will to replace them. You’ll spend an average of $400 to repair your gutters, while full replacement will cost around $2,000 or more, depending on the gutter material and style and the size of your home. If your gutters are nearing the end of their lifespan—usually around 20 years for aluminum or vinyl gutters or up to 50 years for copper or steel—then it might make sense to replace them, as it could cost you less in the long run.

On average, gutters need to be replaced every 20 years. Unprotected gutters in more extreme weather conditions are more prone to breaking and may need to be replaced sooner. Meanwhile, proper maintenance can extend your gutter’s life span even further. That said, proper installation, gutter hangers to provide additional support, and gutter guards or helmets all play an important role in how long your gutters last.

It’s technically possible to remove some soffit material without removing your gutters, but it’s usually a good idea to remove gutters, fascia, and soffit and then reinstall them in the opposite order. Replacing soffits without removing gutters is likely to leave you with a less professional and clean appearance, and you’re more likely to do damage to your gutters and fascia boards in the process.
