"We have 2 heat pumps which we have serviced every 2 years. I was going to call the company that had installed our heat pumps until a friend told me that Daveâ s Mechanical Maintenance had installed his heat pump and had done a great job. I called Daveâ s and scheduled an appointment for service. Dave Curtis came to our house on the day scheduled and he arrived on time. He was very efficient and cleaned and service both units. One unit had not been functioning at full efficiency but Dave diagnosed and fixed the issue in no time. I highly recommend, if you need service or need a new heat pump installed, calling Daveâ s Mechanical Maintenance. They are efficient, friendly and provide exceptional customer service at a very reasonable price."

Heating and Air Conditioning questions, answered by experts

The length of an AC cycle depends on the settings in your thermostat and the unit you have. Central AC doesn't constantly run at full blast the way that a window unit does. A cooling cycle in most homes is 15 to 20 minutes. Then, the unit stays off for seven to 10 minutes to circulate the cold air in the house before the cycle repeats. It should repeat two or three times per hour. A short cycle lasts less than 10 minutes and then turns off.

No. Your furnace does not run your air conditioner. Both units use the same system of ductwork to move conditioned air throughout your home, but you can have a furnace without having an air conditioner and vice versa. Furnaces are only for heating your home. You can buy a system that does both, however, like a split system or a heat pump (yes, heat pumps cool, too).

While all portable AC units will collect moisture as part of their cooling and dehumidifying process, whether and how often you need to drain them depends on what kind of unit you have and the natural humidity levels where you live. For example, if you live in a very dry area and have a self-evaporating unit, you may not need to drain your portable AC very often at all. Some units may automatically drain collected moisture out the window through their exhaust vent.

Yes. Your air supply should be balanced. The return and supply ducts need to maintain that balance, and this only occurs because an equal amount of air should be entering and leaving your HVAC system. Changes in pressure, extreme weather, and blocking vents with furniture or your stuff can make the air supply unbalanced and cause your home to get too cold or hot.

Assessing location for airflow, convenience, and minimal noise impact.
