"I had a government contract doing decks and he has has helped me out with that work many times. He is also good with cabinetry, landscaping, and he also worked on some handicap bathrooms that was a commercial project for elderly housing. He is very meticulous with everything he does, and he is a good to have around!"

"I just bought an older home that needed some work here and there. As a single mom going to school part-time sometimes i need help. Mark fixed the leaking pipe in the kitchen, replaced a couple of boards on the porch, and sealed around my windows and doors. He has good prices and is professional."

Deck Maintenance questions, answered by experts

Most building codes list a minimum width of 36 inches and a maximum height of 7¾ inches. However, for the most comfort and spaciousness, you’ll want to aim for a width of at least 48 inches and a height of 7 inches. Again, it’s always a good idea to base your numbers off steps that you already use comfortably.

Composite decking is the best material for individuals living with disabilities who want to age in place. The material is anti-slip, which increases safety throughout the year. It’s also highly durable and requires minimal maintenance, so it doesn’t add another item to the individual’s to-do list. It’s also a good option for improving wheelchair accessibility at home, as it can easily manage a wheelchair ramp.

The best and fastest way to remove paint from a deck often involves combining a chemical stripper with a pressure washer. Gel-based paint strippers are highly recommended because their thick consistency makes them less messy and easier to apply than liquid strippers. After applying the stripper to loosen the paint, you can use a pressure washer to efficiently wash away the residue. When using a pressure washer for this task, it's important to use a low pressure (under 1000 PSI) to avoid forcing too much moisture into the wood, which could lead to mildew or rot.

Deck skirting shouldn’t touch the ground, especially if you have a wood deck, which is vulnerable to moisture. Ideally, you should leave at least 3/4 of an inch of space between the deck skirting and the ground for more ventilation. Pros also recommend that you incorporate about 1 square foot of space for ventilation for the underside of the deck to every 150 square feet of decking. Proper ventilation prevents mold growth and rot that can damage your deck.

No, it isn’t necessary to skirt a deck, but investing in the cost to install deck skirting can bring more value to your home. Not only does deck skirting make the deck look more complete, but it can also turn otherwise unused space beneath the deck into useful storage space.
