"Gracen is excellent! I needed a transfer switch to run my generator from the electrical panel. From first quote to job done, Gracen kept in touch. He does good honest work and explains everything heâ s done. Heck, he even put up with my dog barking the whole time he was over lol. When he was done with the job, he helped me go through everything and in detail. Recommend highly"

"Those guys just terrific! They installed a whole house generator. It was a very hard installation, because the generator was far away from the electrical source. They have also followed recurring maintenance."

"We have nothing but great things to say about SLTD Electric. They have come out to our house a couple times now for different projects, and they are always very communicative and deliver affordable, prompt, and effective services. They are also super friendly (and sweet to our gaggle of pets). We cannot recommend them enough."

"Kevin called me the same day I posted the pro request. I scheduled him to come by to do a quote two days later and hired him at that point. Kevin replaced a scary exterior electrical outlet and power cord that powers a pool pump. The power cord was coming out of the ground and arcing and the old outlet was melted around a socket. Not good. Kevin fixed it right up and replaced and greatly improved the whole set up, including installing an exterior outlet and switch that are both protected by the weather. Very impressed and will hire Kevin again."

Generator Install questions, answered by experts

Your Bangor home is well-suited for generator installation if you experience frequent power outages, rely on electric heating, or use a private well. Look for at least five feet of clear, level space outside for the generator, and ensure access to propane or natural gas. Homes with updated 200-amp panels and those not located in flood-prone areas are especially ideal for reliable backup power.

Helpful?

In Bangor, generator installation projects usually take 3 to 6 weeks from start to finish. This includes time for site assessment, securing permits, and utility coordination, with installation itself often completed in a day or two. Winter weather can delay progress, especially if the ground is frozen. Additional tasks like gas line installation or electrical upgrades may extend the timeline for your home generator project.

Helpful?

In Bangor, combining generator installation with electrical panel upgrades, surge protection, or adding smart thermostats can streamline your project and improve energy efficiency. Coordinating with HVAC improvements, like installing a cold-climate heat pump, helps maximize backup power benefits. Avoid scheduling major landscaping or roofing at the same time, as those projects can disrupt generator placement and delay your installation.

Helpful?

For generator installation in Bangor, prioritize standby generators designed for cold climates, with weatherproof enclosures and cold-weather kits. Use automatic transfer switches that comply with local electrical codes, and install the unit on a reinforced concrete pad to withstand freeze-thaw cycles. Opt for THWN-2 wiring rated for low temperatures, and ensure all electrical boxes are weather-resistant for reliable backup power during harsh Maine winters.

Helpful?

In Bangor, common mistakes include placing the emergency generator too close to windows or vents, overlooking snow clearance around the unit, and not accounting for proper drainage. Homeowners sometimes underestimate their backup power needs, especially if they use electric heat or well pumps. Skipping necessary permits or failing to install a cold-weather kit can also lead to issues during severe winter outages.
