"Knotts Welding was very professional and they were able to answer all of my questions. However, due to price and location of Knotts, we decided not to go with them. I was looking for someone local to do a small welding project for me. Due to the price and distance, I decided to do it myself."

"MLS repaired my chain link after 3 large tree branches completely annihilated it. I then hired them to build a wooden double door gate to add privacy to my back yard from my driveway. Beautiful!!!! All done in one day!!! I rehired them to fix my front porch railing. They repaired, painted and welded s small area at the top just as a courtesy. Im rehiring them to fabricate a wood privacy screen so I donâ t have to look at my neighbors deck. Courteous, punctual and expeditious. I would definitely recommend."

Wrought Iron questions, answered by experts

The average cost to install a wrought iron fence is around $3,150, with typical project costs ranging from $470 to $10,500. The final price can vary significantly based on several factors, including the fence's total length and height, design complexity, metal thickness, and your property's topography.

For materials alone, you can expect to pay around $25 to $35 per linear foot. When including installation, the cost is typically between $50 and $70 per linear foot.

Additional factors that can influence the total cost include:

  • Custom designs, decorative flourishes, gates, and columns

  • Labor costs in your area

  • The need for permits

  • Land preparation, such as old fence removal, tree or bush clearing, and land grading

For an accurate estimate, it is best to consult a professional fence installer with the specific measurements and design requirements for your project.

The most durable metal for a fence is wrought iron. With proper care, a wrought iron fence can last for centuries. This means regular resealing to stave off rust and corrosion, especially in coastal climates with salty sea air. In these environments, chain link and corrugated fencing tend to stand up better to the elements with fewer maintenance needs.

The most common height of a front yard fence is around 3 feet high, but it can vary depending on your zoning laws. If your fence is meant to create privacy, something closer to 6 feet or higher will do the trick. Most of the time, the highest fence you’ll see is 8 feet tall.

Installing a fence when the ground is frozen presents challenges, but it's possible with the right approach. First, mark and measure the fence line accurately. Use a power auger or manual post-hole digger to create holes in the frozen ground, ideally when it's less rigid during warmer parts of the day. Consider using pre-made fence post anchors or driving metal posts into the ground. Ensure posts are secure with concrete for stability. Allow extra time for the concrete to cure. Additionally, be cautious of frost heave, which may affect post-alignment. Installing in milder winter conditions is often more manageable.

Wood, vinyl, chain link, and aluminum are common materials. Choose based on durability, maintenance needs, and aesthetics.
