"Unbelievably great service! My regular guy was injured and couldn’t do the job so I used Home Advisor. Jeff contacted me in a flash, gave me a price and I scheduled the job with him. I asked him to let me know when they were on their way so I didn’t have to stay home from work and he texted me right on schedule. Kyle came to do the dirty job - neat, clean, patient and friendly. Homeowners insurance usually doesn’t cover sewer backups because it’s typically an avoidable problem with proper maintenance. If methods like hot water or a plunger don’t work on your clogged drain, you can snake your drain to dislodge the plug. This can be a messy process, taking some physical effort and additional time over the other drain-clearing options. You can purchase a drain snake at a hardware store and choose from handheld options or those attached to a drill. Just work slowly, and be ready to call a plumber if you’re unable to reach the clog from your drain or P-trap.

If you’re not using a septic system, problems with your home’s plumbing won’t cause this—it’s a city problem. A large blockage in the municipal sewage lines may cause those lines to back up into your home. This is extremely unpleasant and can be a serious health risk due to bacteria and other contaminants. If this occurs, call a pro (or your city) immediately.

It can take anywhere from half an hour to a few hours to fix a main line clog, depending on the cause and severity of it. The job should not take more than a day to complete. Keep in mind that the main line is not the same as your home’s sewer lines (which connect to the main line and run to your house). Your city is responsible for any clogs or damage to the main line itself.
