"Bill Shea's Replacement Countertops are very easy to work with. I had two different salespeople and they were both very pleasant and very organized. I had talked to them about a year ago and then forgot about and then finally decided to go ahead with it. He offered some other suggestions about the type of countertop I picked and his suggestion was better. That turned out to be really good. It works for me. My kitchen looks bigger. It's lighter. We replaced the countertop and sink for the bathroom. She brought me a whole bunch of different things to look at and we decided on the one that I wanted. She suggested putting a backsplash on it, which I hadn't thought of, because my original counter didn't have one. But she suggested it and it looks really great. "

"I found OJ Marble and Granite through a Google search. At first, I only wanted to replace a kitchen island countertop with granite. Nenio was quick and responsive and gave me a good price (I had gone to both Lowes and Home Depot depot and been very unsatisfied withe service and prices). I initially picked the company since they were located in Amesbury where I live. I had not planned to replace the rest of my counters, but I asked Nenio to give me quote while he and is crew where there to install the island top. He promptly gave me a price that was very good. I decided to go ahead with it and just it installed. I couldn't be any happier with this company - good price, prompt and professional service. I would heartily recommend this company to anyone."

"This was our second time working with Onyx Marble and Granite for a bathroom vanity countertop. We could not be more pleased! From the very beginning, Eddie was extremely helpful, patient, and knowledgeable in helping us pick out the best material and style that would coordinate with the rest of our bathroom. He also was conscious of our budget and worked to get us the best price possible. Both the initial visit to our home for templating and the final visit for installation went very smoothly. The associates arrived EARLY, which has never been my experience working with any other company for any type of service. They were very professional, performed quality workmanship, and cleaned up after the installation was complete. I cannot more highly recommend Onyx and we look forward to working with them ago for future projects that arise. Thank you Onyx team!"

"Leo was very professional, a good listener and answered our questions patiently. He and his team came on time and finished the work on schedule. I had one big kitchen and three bathrooms to fit granite countertops and they did excellent job. Very experienced, efficient and yet pay attention to details too. It has been almost six months and looking back it was clear we made the right decision hiring him."

"Jack did a wonderful job. He listened to all of my requests about designing and installation and knew everything there was to know about cabinets, countertops, and bathroom remodeling. I was able to review countless samples for design and types of materials. All in all, this was a great experience with a quick but 100% professional installation. I will definitely be recommending him."

"

Jan 28, 2016: We wanted vanities for 2 bathrooms and base and upper cabinets for a kitchen expansion. We were hoping to take advantage of free design services from Kitchen Design Center of Framingham (KCOF).

The cabinets did not meet our expectations. Instead of getting bathroom vanities we received kitchen cabinets for the bathrooms, meaning the vanities were significantly deeper than normal bath vanities. We provided the cabinet designer with specs for our bath sinks but the designer neglected to check to see if the sink would fit into the cabinet that they designed. After the marble counter was already produced we found out that the sink wouldn't fit and the solution proposed by Kitchen Design Center of Framingham was to cut down the sides of the cabinet and drawer boxes significantly. This solution was unacceptable and would void our warranty. Instead we found a replacement sink which would fit the cabinet and replaced the marble counter. Kitchen Design Center of Framingham refused to take any responsibility for their design error. Reluctantly, Kitchen Design Center of Framingham agreed to split the cost of the replacement marble counter, but insisted that these sorts of design issues happen all the time - yikes! In reality, we paid $580 for "free" design services.

The kitchen cabinets installation was also disappointing. None of the cabinet doors and drawer fronts line up as they should. The installers insisted that the cabinets were installed in the best possible way and said that it isn't possible to align the doors and drawer fronts, blaming the situation on the Wood Mode cabinets. During the design process we weren't notified that this would be the case. In fact, we don't believe that Wood Mode would make cabinets which didn't allow alignment of doors and drawer fronts. In fact, the entire rest of our kitchen is Wood Mode cabinets which align very nicely.

March 16, 2016: Following our initial review, Dave Bartlett at KCOF contacted us to see what could be done to rectify the situation. He agreed to pay the remaining balance ($580) for the marble countertop that wasn't used due to the sink change. He also agreed to come to the house and look at the door and drawer alignment issues. During his visit, he identified 2 issues and arranged to have these issues addressed. As a result, the alignment on the drawer and cabinet doors is improved.

Countertops and Backsplashes FAQs, answered by experts

The best tool for cutting countertops depends on the type of countertop material. For some softer materials, like laminate (Formica) and butcher block, you can use a hand saw, but most experts recommend power saws like circular saws, since these make the job go faster and easier and give more even results. However, power saws and circular saws are dangerous if used incorrectly, and they can be so powerful that they damage or chip laminate, stone, and other types of countertops. For this reason, you should take safety precautions and use best practices to prevent damage.

Yes, Corian® and other solid surface countertops can be cut with standard woodworking tools like a circular saw or a jigsaw, but using the correct blade is crucial for the best results.

The recommended blade is a tungsten carbide-tipped blade, often called a solid-surface planer or triple chip grind blade. This type of blade is hard enough to cut through the material effectively. For a jigsaw, a fine-tooth down-cutting blade should be used.

It is important to note that a diamond blade is not necessary. Diamond blades are designed for harder materials like natural stone, concrete, or brick, and Corian is not a natural stone.

Using blades designed for wood is not recommended as they can cause microfractures that weaken the countertop's edges. While a tungsten carbide blade provides a much cleaner cut, the resulting edge will still be rough and must be sanded and smoothed to prevent microfractures from developing over time.

These countertops are durable, non-porous, and available in various styles. They’re also easy to maintain.

If you are building a laminate countertop from scratch, instead of buying premade laminate countertops, you can use particle board underneath the laminate. You will need to use a sheet of particle board for the substrate, along with four-inch strips underneath the edges. For proper installation, make sure that any seams are level and use a sander as necessary before installing the laminate.

You most likely purchased a quartz countertop because it won't stain or etch like marble. However, etching can still happen depending on the quality of the quartz and whether it is repeatedly cleaned with harsh chemicals or exposed to acidic spills. Remember, while quartz is more resistant than natural stone, just like Superman when faced with Kryptonite, it is not indestructible.
