We're a small family owned electric contractor based on the North Shore of Boston. JOLT stands for myself, John, my dog, Oliver, my wife, Lisa and our son, Trevor. I personally have over 30 years experience in the electrical field and would love to show you what customer service is really like. We answer the phone when you call, let you know if we're running 15 minutes late and are clean, articulate and polite. Oh yeah, and we do electrical work pretty well too. Check us out on the A&E TV show "Flipping Boston"!! I think we offer a good service at a fair price and hope you give us a chance to prove it. Have a great day!
John was right on time. Diagnosed the problem quickly and patiently explained to me me all my options. Ended up saving me $200 in parts and fixing all the problems. Highly recommend him!

John has come out twice at different times to scope out 2 different electrical projects in our home and we've never received a quote. We though it was a fluke the first time so we gave him another opportunity. In both cases we've hired another electrician which worked out great. I would not recommend. Such a waste of everyone's time to come and spend so much time with us and then he never sends a quote. I wish he had just been honest and said he wasn't interested rather than wasting so much of our time.
Description of Work: Had done work for us in the past and was great. Came out to scope out job, never received a quote--followed up twice. Finally told us he's at least 2 months out. Wish we had known that before he came up.

Hi [Member Name Removed], I'm sorry that happened. I do remember the first estimate that you are referring to. You were having a massive renovation of your house being performed, with an electrician on site the day I came by. I told you as nicely as I could that I didn't feel comfortable with doing work on your home while there was another electrician working there on a long-term project. I'm sorry if that came across as I was going to give you a quote. Maybe I did not explain myself well enough. I was surprised to get a call from you a year or so later, as I figured you were happy with the other electrician you used for the renovation. And, to be completely honest, I dropped the ball getting you that second estimate. Unfortunately, that does happen, for which there is no excuse. I apologize for wasting your and my time like that. However, I do wish you had left a review for the previous work we had performed in 2014 and 2015, as you had said you were very happy with it. Either way, I wish you the best. John

AMAZING! John is the most prompt, punctual, knowledgeable, polite, and kind service providers I've ever worked with. With my flickering lights issue, I called him on Christmas Day convinced that my house was going to burn down due to a shorted wire somewhere. John answered his phone, from a Christmas party, to talk me off the ledge. He came the very next day, quickly determined that it was an outdoor problem---and arranged with the local utility to get it fixed. The next time i called was to do the outdoor wiring project. John showed up the very next day and was in and out quite quickly. He even called me (I wasn't home at the time) to ensure he had permission to enter the garage to cut off the main power. It was a step that he didn't have to take time out of his busy day to do, but it simply reminded me how professional and considerate he is. Thanks John!
Description of Work: I've hired John twice in the last 6 months. The first time was to investigate some mysterious flickering lights. The second was to replace an outdoor GFCI and to rewire a pool pump.

We joined Angie's List to stop running into any difficulties with tradesmen. Thus far, we have been happy with the providers that we have hired. In fact, last year we used Jolt Electric and was happy with the work. When we ran into a problem with one some of the equipment that he installed, we called and set up an appointment to have him come and fix it. We waited for four hours but he never showed and did not answer his cell phone. We gave him the benefit of the doubt because mistakes do happen. We called him again today and he has not even given us the consideration of returning our call. This is not an A provider. Very disappointed and this is the first time I have ever written a bad review.

[Member Name Removed], I'm sorry that we let you down. I was very sick with a bad bug during that time. I didn't answer the phone. I didn't answer emails. I did try to call you twice afterwards, left messages, but I never heard back from you. I hope you were able to get it taken care of. On a different note, I wish you had left reviews for either of the other two service calls I performed. The first being installing the smoke detectors for you, which you were very happy with - as it says in the review you left. The second being troubleshooting a tripping Arc Fault breaker for your master bedroom, due a lamp you owned. It had nothing to do with any work we performed. But I fixed the issue for free, as I felt bad charging you for it. On the same day you called me about it. Even though I was nowhere near you that day and made a special trip to get there. I don't normally leave reviews of clients or say bad things in public places about them, but I think that may have deserved a positive review on my behalf. I wish more people left good reviews, instead of just bad ones. Either way, I wish you and your dog the best. John

Thermostat is still in the box, so I couldn't tell you.
Description of Work: Needed to have a smart thermostat installed in my home. John said he would come out the following Monday as he had a project in the area. Unfortunately, he completely blew off the appointment. I took a day off of work to be home and I never received any notification that he was not going to be making the appointment. I called and left two voicemail's: one a half hour after the appointment, and another an hour after the appointment. I did not receive a response for either. I recognize that it was a small job, but the size of the job was known ahead of time. If you didn't want to take it then don't accept it. That was a day off and time that I wasted.

John was here quickly and on time. After excluding a fire or a short circuit, he worked very hard to figure out an alternative explanation. He explained to me his arguments, and he called a number of colleagues to get second opinions. In the end we were not able to find a perfect explanation of the cause of the blackening. The most likely cause was propably some batch variation of the copper and some corrosion. However, he was able to exclude any heat damage. Even so, I was convinced by John's line of reasoning. I also appreciated the amount of time John put into educating me about the electrical system of our house (Close to 100 years old, and a mess with many layers of different installations), and what might need to be done in the future.
Description of Work: An issue with our electrical system came up during a home inspection. Some wires showed black discoloration. The inspector suggested that that might be indicative of a fire in our main panel.

new customers but he came less than 48 hours from call; fixed both dryer and stove; showed me how I could fix fan myself to save money. although he had to postpone app't by about 3 hours, he called night before to reschedule if necessary. explained what he recommended and why he recommended it. His rates were reasonable for area we live in (Boston North Shore). We were really pleased -- after living here for 12 years we think we've finally found a good, reliable, reasonably priced electrician we'll use again.

Dangerous "repair". I attempted to explain what happened and to schedule a follow up but Jolt was moving into a new home and had no time for me. I hired a difference electrician for installing two new ceiling lights and he thinks the fire was started by a loose wire and careless repair.
Description of Work: The ceiling fan in the bedroom needed a new remote transmitter to replace the one that was lost during a renovation. I purchased the brand new kit and Jolt was to replace the new part with the one that would work with the new remote control. Within a day, the area where the transmitter was installed in the fan started to smoke and an acrid, burning odor followed. An electrical fire resulted!

Currently we have 2/3 of the work done as we are waiting to finalize Other items before JOLT can do the finish work. John was extremely responsive and called if he was running late or early (and yes sometimes it was early). Always made his appointments and even performed the work earlier than expected. Inspectors of the city even commented on the work performed and stated we had a good electrician based on the work performed. I would highly recommend him to anyone who asks.

I'm very unsatisfied with the professionalism of this company. I originally reached out to Jolt Electric on 1/11/2016. I sent out an email explaining that I'm an Angie's List member and need to have a flood light replaced over my garage doors. I was corresponding with John Stavaridis the owner of the company. I asked if he would be able to let me know how much he charges per hour or if he could stop by to give me a quote. I even went as far as emailing him a picture of the flood light. Long story short, I never hear back from him. All of the emails, was a complete waist of time.

John came right out to do the estimate. They weren't the lowest bid - but it was the most complete bid with John offering valuable suggestions to help us layout the kitchen. I had gutted the kitchen myself and they came in to wire up the new kitchen and rewire the rest of the house (except for an addition from the 80's in the back). Chris and Steve arrived on time every day, were well organized and efficient. They cleaned up after themselves, kept me fully informed as to where they were and what was next. They were excellent at keeping the damage to the rest of the house to an absolute minimum. Our house is from 1902 with many sections unrenovated. They carefully worked in the old portions of the house to rewire everything. Given that we had gutted the kitchen, have an unfinished attic and basement, they were able to reqire everything with only cutting two holes in the front porch to run wires. They installed hard wired fire alarms throughout the house, under cabinet led lighting and installed some new fixtures for us. They were professional and courteous at all times. I highly recommend them for any electrical work.

I had a motion-activated outside light that wasn't working. I used Angie's List to research possible electricians to come out and try to diagnose the problem and found Jolt Electric. They had a website with a e-mail messaging feature, which I found very useful as I am a person with a hearing loss and talking on the phone is very difficult for me. John got in touch with me promptly and was very flexible and accommodating about communicating via e-mail which I really appreciated. I described the issue to him, and he very wisely suggested that I take some time to research replacement light fixtures so that it would only be one trip to my residence to complete the job. John was very responsive when I was finally able to set up an appointment and got back to me quickly. He also let me know when plans changed and he couldn't do the job himself, but sent two other capable electricians in his place. The electricians came on time and were very efficient and made a quick diagnosis and removed the faulty fixture and replaced it with a new one, all in less than an hour. They also cleaned up and disposed of any packaging or trash that was left.

I was impressed at my initial meeting, finding the owner of Jolt Electric, John Stavaridis, to be personable, knowledgeable and readily able to identify circuits on the obsolete wiring. A good front man for his business as I have rarely, if ever, hired anyone to perform work for me whom I had not met in advance. Here are the reasons why: I spent two weeks remediating the inexcusable wear and tear to my home that occurred during knob and tube removal by the 2nd string Mr. Stavaridis sent to carry out the work. On the second day, they arrived prepared to cut 4" holes in my walls and ceilings but without a shop vac, thus ill-equipped to handle the dust and debris that would be generated in the process. Instead, a small but expensive hand held vacuum in my living room, neither designed nor intended to handle construction debris, was appropriated WITHOUT MY EXPRESS PERMISSION for that purpose. They also appropriated a HEPA vacuum in the basement, again WITHOUT MY EXPRESS PERMISSION and then left the hose and power cord in a tangled mess. I expect workmen to show up with everything that is required to complete the job they have been hired to do without commandeering my personal property to that end when it suits them; and certainly not without first obtaining my permission. They brought down firebrick in the basement over the stair and in three other locations raining down debris on shop equipment, freezer, a small antique stove and other personal property. The stairs were pockmarked and dinged from bricks and falling debris and a Pilates machine, brand new and never used, now has a puncture in the upholstered foam bed. All the while, a drop cloth lay idly folded under their toolbox in near proximity. The first floor stairway 3-way switches were rewired without the use of drop cloths allowing cementitious plaster and debris to collect on the stair runner along with all the tools in use. It was then I discovered many of the devices were being replaced for NO GOOD REASON. I had just installed the first floor 3-way less than two weeks prior. Even after my phone conversation with Mr. Stavarids that afternoon requesting only devices requiring replacement be replaced, a Leviton Decora rocker at the front door was replaced with a cheap toggle and switch plate the following day - both of which are now in the trash as I reinstalled the rocker and plate myself. The front porch light fixture controlled at this location was reinstalled off center in the soffit. While work was taking place in the study I ran an extension cord to the kitchen to keep the wireless router and other electronics powered up. When the work was completed, the electrician abruptly without warning disconnected the extension from the kitchen wall recepticle cutting power to all that equipment. Undeniably rude and inconsiderate. When the work moved to the second floor, again NO DROP CLOTHS. Beautiful maple floors were left unprotected. The floors in every room were marred and tracked. When they were again proceeding to start work the following day without them, I had to insist drop cloths be used. I spoke with his electrician on two separate occasions about having paid $1500 for an attic clean-out the previous fall, requesting that all debris including any firebrick be removed and it be left broom clean as they found it. I had that same conversation with Mr. Stavaridis and was assured everything would be taken away. Those earnest requests fell on deaf ears. Firebrick was left in the attic. Just recently, I found a 5/4 attic plank stuffed in a second floor bathroom cabinet. The manner in which modifications were made to the second floor subpanel involving the addition of new breakers rendered the circuit breaker directory on the panel door useless. It may be clear what circuits are on the new breakers but the others are totally screwed up. The main panel where new breakers were also added is worse. Mr. Stavaridis sent two neanderthals wearing heavy deeply treaded construction boots who unabashedly tracked snow and dirt through the entire house for seven days, evidenced by the muddy condition of the foyer, using an $1100 wool stair runner as a doormat for most of them. Completely unnecessary. Totally inappropriate. Both newel posts, as well as balusters, baseboards and door casings need repainting. The walls surrounding the attic opening were damaged down to plaster. Every basement stair tread required repainting. The basement entrance door, beautiful naturally finished wood, now has a 2 inch long ding in the molding. Adding insult to injury, I was presented with a bill with 37% markups and outrageous romex take-offs. The entire house, just under 2200sf, could have been completely rewired with 1500ft of 14/2 romex and enough left over to rewire the house next door. 250ft of 14/3 - I did the take off. 50 feet would have more than accomplished the job. Likewise with 80ft of 12/2 for the GFCI. These take-offs were revised down because I challenged them but pity the unsuspecting homeowner. Additionally, the last day's labor was 6.5 hrs not 7 for which I was charged. The basement door was slammed so hard upon their final exit the sound reverberated throughout the house. Mr. Stavaridis? electrician and his apprentice, clearly neither of whom were working for me, trashed my home with little regard for the premises or personal belongings therein. If I had this to do over, I WOULD NOT. As I am preparing the house for sale, it would have been better for me to have offered a $10K allowance at closing for knob and tube removal thus sparing myself 'Seven Days from H***' compliments of Jolt Electric, Inc.
