"The welding to repair the tractor loader was of excellent quality. The welding technician also took the time to repaint the welded section and area around the new weld, so it looked great! The welding technician worked efficiently, charged fairly, and was personable."

"I highly recommend R&R Welding. They made me customized rod iron railings with the tree of life inserted in the center. They are very detail oriented and very professional with great pricing. I'm in insurance and I have referred many of my clients looking for railings or other Welding jobs to R&R Welding."

Small jobs welcome

Hello I have been ironworking for 13 years and been welding for 16 years(including the 13). 10 of those years i have been union. I have been working for big name companies such as Marr crane and rigging, Santini brothers iron works, E.D.M. construction, and tnt steel erectors. I have plenty of knowledge and plenty of skill to be able to work and get any job done. I worked on iron railings, fences, pipe, structural steel reinforcement, welding moments on steel beams. I can work within 100 miles from Boston. I will try to work with you if you are a bit out of my range. I think my company will be the best for you cause I will be the safest and quickest to complete any job and I will uphold those standards.

"e thenMario gave me an estimate over the phone based on a photo of the stairway I had emailed him.  He then came out to measure and discuss the project.  He was on time and easy to speak with.  3 weeks later, his crew did the installation.  It was very sturdy and well made - a real professional job.

"I called Randy when I learned my neighbor was having trees removed by Gate City to see if we could have a large tree removed when they were across the street. Randy came out the same afternoon to give me a quote. Due to power lines, he got the power company out to trim some limbs and cover the lines for safety. The actual removal went smoothly and the crew did a great job cleaning up all the branches. Randy was easy to work with, pleasant and responsive. We couldn’t be happier with the entire experience."

Welding questions, answered by experts

You should not do your own welding unless you have the proper training and experience. Most home electrical systems can only handle MIG welding, which creates weaker bonds than TIG welding and won’t work on certain metals or metal thicknesses. Both welding forms usually require the use of shielding gas, which can be dangerous to store at home. Additionally, welding machines create temperatures of over 3,000 degrees, and the sparks can blind you if you don’t have the proper equipment. As such, it’s usually better to hire a professional welder for your welding projects.

Since water heaters are primarily made of metal, they’re commonly accepted by scrap yards and collectors. Don’t expect to fetch a high price, though—water heaters are mostly steel and aluminum, which aren’t high-value metals. Some components are made of more valuable metals, like brass and copper, but they’re a small portion of the heater and won’t affect the price much.

Some welding projects, such as repairing pipes or fences, require travel, whereas others, like furniture repair, do not necessarily require the welder to come to you. Travel and overhead factor into the overall cost of your welding project. Some of the most common welding projects include:

  • Metal furniture repair: $35–$100

  • Pipe repair: $200–$1,000

  • Small gates: $550–$750

  • Fencing: $1,200–$1,800

  • Fabricated sheet metal welding: $750–$2,500

The cost to weld aluminum averages about $14 to $22 per pound. The type of metal factors into the overall cost of any welding project due to the cost of the materials and the expertise required to work with it. Some of the most common metals used by welders include:

  • Magnesium alloy: $7–$16 per pound

  • Low-carbon steel: $11–$12 per pound

  • Stainless steel: $13–$15 per pound

  • Copper/brass: $24–$29 per pound

  • Cast iron: $38–$79 per pound

  • Titanium: $60–$85 per pound

Cutting round ductwork requires precision and the right tools. A duct cutter, specifically designed for circular ducts, is ideal. First, mark the cutting line on the duct using a measuring tape and pencil. Then, position the duct cutter's blade on the marked line. Apply steady pressure, rotating the cutter around the duct. The sharp blade creates a clean, precise cut. Alternatively, a reciprocating saw with a metal-cutting blade can be used for larger round ducts. Ensure the duct is securely held in place while making the cut to prevent slips and maintain accuracy.
