Flynn Roofing Co. was established in 1997 by Stephen Flynn. We are a small family-operated company that specializes in residential and commercial roofing, both asphalt shingles and rubber roofing. Some of our non-residential customers have included a nursing home, motel, town hall building, condo associations, a Mason lodge, and multiple office buildings. Our goal is to provide our customers with outstanding customer service and complete satisfaction. We pledge to return every phone call in a timely manner and address every question completely. We have an extensive listing of references showing our satisfied customers. We are not satisfied with your job until you are satisfied. We serve the Greater Boston area, the South Shore and Metro West. We are fully insured, including workers compensation and we use absolutely NO subcontractors, which is almost unheard of in this industry. The company you hire to do your job will be the company that arrives at your home. We pledge to install your roof as quickly as possible, while maintaining our strict quality standards. We work on one roof at a time and will be at your home daily (weather permitting) until your roof is completed. We work in an efficient and orderly manner, leaving your yard as we found it at the start of the job (some customers have said even better!). Flynn Roofing Co. is a Certainteed Select Shingle Roofer company, enabling us to offer our customers who choose Certainteed shingles a five-star warranty. This warranty includes a 15 or 20 year workmanship guarantee, along with the standard materials warranty. We purchase this warranty for ALL of our customers. We are also a GAF Authorized Installer. We are a proud member of the Northeast Roofing Contractors Association and the Better Business Bureau. We have had 0 complaints reported to the Better Business Bureau since we joined on 1/4/05.

"What I thought was going to be a painful process turned into a pleasant experience. Mr. Flynn was very timely in giving me a quote, supplying information about the materials, paperwork such as insurance certificate , and not subbing out the job. Mr. Flynn's crew was here at 7:50 AM. Stopped for lunch at 11:30 returned to work promptly at 12:30 and was finished with the job by 3. They were all very professional and courteous. The clean up was impeccable. Mr. Flynn and his crew know how to run a business. Kudos to Robyn too for all her help. Great Company!"

"DO NOT HIRE. If you're looking for a misogynist old man to tell you he did his job when he didn't hire Cowen Associates. The worst customer service I have ever experienced. Fred, the owner refused to give me measurements that he claims were written in his drawing and then called me to tell me it's not his job to give me the measurements. He charged me $200 per hour to then tell me I shouldn't be the general contractor on my own job and that I don't know anything."

SolarFlair works with businesses and homeowners that are interested to reduce their utility bills and their carbon footprint by converting to solar power. We are a licensed and certified solar engineering and design firm with over 10 years of experience in the industry. We do not use subcontractors and have over 200 satisfied clients that are happy to share their SolarFlair experience.

"The original installation process went very smoothly, however,, A few years after the panels were installed, a leak developed at one of the punctures for the panel mounts. we first called back the roofer to see if the leak was not due to the solar mounts, but he confirmed that the leak was indeed right under one of the mounts. SolarFlair came to take a look and applied a product to the interior of the roof which did nothing to stop the leak, they came back and applied roof tar on the outside which again did not stop the leak. this process has been very frustrating for the lack of communication, the slowness and incomplete response to the issue. They've closed out the work each time they've done something before veryifying that the leak has been fixed (it still has not been fixed). The company had taken over 9 months from our inital call, and we still have a leaking roof. we have very little communication from SolarFlair as to what actions they have taken, and what next they could do. it seems clear that part of the roof needs to be replaced to fix the leak."

Structural Engineering questions, answered by experts

The best way to determine if ceiling cracks are structural is to hire a ceiling contractor to inspect the cracks and provide a professional opinion. That said, you might be able to make an educated guess based on the size and appearance of the crack. Larger cracks, cracks accompanied by sagging or discoloration, and cracks that travel from the ceiling down the walls are all signs of structural issues.

If you’re building new construction or adding onto your existing home, hiring a structural engineer is not only worth it but it’s probably required by your local building department. Structural engineers will ensure you aren’t making your home unsafe in the building process, which is crucial from a safety perspective but also a legal one. It’s also worth hiring a structural engineer if you’re making changes to structural components, like removing a load-bearing wall.

Their expertise in identifying potential problems early and implementing durable solutions safeguards your home’s integrity.

All foundations have footers, including monolithic slabs. In some cases, the foundation itself acts as the footer, as in the case of a floating slab and a monolithic slab. With a monolithic slab, the footers—which are just the bottom-most portion of the foundation that distributes loads down to stable soil—are a part of the main slab and are constructed with a single pour.

A 4-inch-thick concrete slab can support around 4,000 pounds per square foot if a contractor reinforces the slab with rebar, while that same slab without reinforcements will support closer to 1,000 pounds. For the purposes of a patio, 4 inches in thickness without reinforcement should suffice unless you’re installing heavy kitchen equipment or a hot tub on it. In those cases, reinforcing your slab and sticking with 4 inches of thickness should provide plenty of strength.
