"I am very, very happy with the results. The table looks new...3 coats of finish applied with no brush strokes (had done 3 years previously by Manhattan Restoration with dismal results)...repaired table leaf assembly, replaced stops and aligned gears. All that and it cost about half the price!"

You’ll need to remove some of the excess wax with a cloth and warm water mixed with dish soap. It’s usually better to repair old furniture because older pieces tend to be made out of hardwood, like oak and maple, whereas newer furniture is more often made out of plywood, medium-density fiberboard (MDF), and other less durable materials. When determining whether it’s worth the price to repair a furniture item, calculate the price of buying a new, similar piece and compare that to quotes from local furniture repair services.

Wood can appear blotchy after staining due to uneven absorption, which happens when the wood has varying grain density. The denser the grain, the less the stain will be absorbed. This can cause the wood to appear uneven in color, with some areas darker than others.

Water-based wood fillers typically take longer to dry than oil-based or epoxy-wood fillers, especially when applied to large areas or deep cracks. Wood putty won’t dry completely, remaining slightly pliable.
