"Levi Alfaro of LA Glass ;replaced the glass in our sliding glass door and did a wonderful job. The glass door was over sixty years old and replacement parts have not been available for years. About ten years ago, the rollers stopped working well and two glass companies were called to repair the rollers. Both companies declined to work on the doors saying that doors that old cannot be repaired but must be replaced. Levi, however, was able to replace the glass and repair the rollers. Levi kept the appointment time, spend hours installing replacement glass and adjusting the rollers, all for a reasonable price. I will certainly call on Levi again. Highly recommended. D. "Kvon and his guys arrived in the morning and despite some mishaps on our end, like forgetting the keys to the new place at our old place, they were nothing but professional and patient. I would feel comfortable recommending them to any of my friends."

Glaziers questions, answered by experts

Yes, you can replace just the glass pane in a window without affecting the surrounding frame. This is a complex process, so it is best to hire a window repair professional to handle the task. A technician will cut the seal, remove the old glass, install the new pane, and properly seal it. For double-pane windows, this includes creating a vacuum between the panes and filling it with insulative gas to restore energy efficiency. Professionals can also help you choose the right type of glass for your window. This repair process is almost always more affordable than replacing the entire window unit.

Hard water stains are caused by hard water. Hard water contains a lot of minerals, like calcium and magnesium. When water on your glass surfaces dries out, the minerals stay behind and stick to the glass. This results in a residue that looks like white cloudy or streaky spots. Call a pro to install a water softener to banish hard water problems.

To tell if a window is single or double-pane, focus on the edge. Double-pane windows have two glass layers separated by a spacer, which you can usually see around the edges. For single-pane windows, it’s just one sheet of glass. Another easy trick: shine a light at the window—single-pane glass reflects once, while double-pane glass reflects twice. Lastly, if you feel both sides of the glass on a cold day, double-paned windows will feel warmer because of the insulating gap between the panes.

Yes, you can hire someone to hang a mirror in your home if you’re unable to tackle the job yourself. You can search for nearby mirror installers, but often, your best bet is a local handyperson. If you’re having other work done in the same room, such as plumbing, drywall, or electrical, those contractors are likely able to help hang the mirror as well—no need to hire someone else.

Smart glass may still work at night, but it depends on the type of smart glass. Some options, smart tint, are controlled by outdoor heat and light and therefore will turn back to transparent at night. Other types can provide a frosted look for some privacy at night. For example, you can turn PDLC smart glass completely opaque any time, day or night.
