"Getting a walk in tub is expensive no matter who you use. My experience thus far is with installation only and I must say my install went great. It has been over a month and no issues with my tub so I cannot comment on repair process with American Standard."

"It is without doubt that GatorCo HVAC did a phenomenal job with the central A/C installation this past year. The quality of service and skill of this company are second to none. I appreciate the work and level of excellence that was shown from beginning to end to restore our cooling system. GatorCo excel in both the area of exceptional customer service coupled with the competence to complete the work that needed to be done. "David Devall is SUPERIOR! We suffered through the Great Flood of 2016 in Louisiana. Mr. David Devall was hired to reconstruct our bathroom by reinstalling a new bathtub and shower. He handled the entire process with such expertise and professionalism. The shower had to be removed first, and the demolition process was handled perfectly. He installed a beautiful new bathtub with fixtures, and provided a huge variety of material and natural stone to choose from. We picked the light Emperador. Mr. David installed this beautiful natural stone as an apron on the front, half-wall surround, and a lip on our window sill. It was stunning. He then installed the same light Emperador when reconstructing our shower. He installed a base, the light, the natural stone, a seat, an area for soap and shampoo, the beautiful fixtures, the shower door, and all trim and caulking. His work area is always clean and works with great skill and enthusiasm. He is always punctual and is consistent with following up when he feels that pertinent instructions relative to care of natural stone, etc., need to be provided. He is currently installing a backsplash in our kitchen. I found a sample of what I wanted online (Taos Picket Pattern), and he hunted it down locally. He makes the reconstruction painless as he offers the leg work to minimize the selection and ordering process. His skill, expertise, and prices are phenomenal, and he is a man of great character, integrity, compassion, trust, and dependability. I attached a couple of photos of the tub. I'm not writing this from home, but if I were, you would get a photo of the shower, too. AMAZING! He gets an AA+!"

The man who worked on my shower did quality and efficient work. It was done in a timely matter and I have a brand new shower!! Drainage works great and the tiling is stunning. I highly recommend!!"

Tub Shower Conversion questions, answered by experts

There are three main types of shower valves: pressure-balancing, thermostatic, and diverter. Pressure-balancing and thermostatic valves are both considered mixing valves because they regulate water flow and temperature, but they do so in different ways. A pressure-balancing valve senses changes in water pressure, such as from a flushing toilet, and adjusts the incoming hot and cold water to maintain a consistent temperature; these typically use a single knob. A thermostatic valve uses a thermostat to precisely control the water temperature and requires a separate control to adjust the water volume. A diverter valve directs the flow of water from one fixture to another, such as switching from a tub faucet to a showerhead in a tub-shower combination.

Most shower arms are ½-inch national pipe thread (NPT). It’s best to check the thread size before buying a new shower arm or showerhead to ensure everything will fit together once you’re ready to install. Remember that older homes or those outside North America may not have standard pipe or thread sizes, which can complicate installation and make it more important to check the thread size before buying.

The average cost to convert a tub to a shower is around $3,000, but prices can range from $1,000 to as high as $15,000. A more typical range is between $1,200 and $8,000. The final cost depends on several factors, including the amount of plumbing work required, the size of the shower, and the type of materials and fixtures chosen. A prefabricated shower stall is a more budget-friendly option, while a custom shower with features like luxury tiles, unique tiling, smart technology, or accessibility features will be at the higher end of the cost spectrum.

How long shower valves last depends on the type you have, how much use it gets, the hardness of your water, and whether the valve was installed correctly. Good-quality brass shower valves are sturdy and last around 20 years, while lower-quality plastic valves last 4 to 5 years. Since shower valves wear out over time, you can proactively replace yours after 15 years or whenever you update your showerhead.

Showers frequently experience leaks, most commonly originating from either the faucet or a malfunctioning shower drain. Detecting a leaky faucet is straightforward—listen for the constant sound of dripping water, even after you believe you've fully closed the faucet. In the case of a shower drain issue, it is often characterized by water seeping from the base, usually caused by a deteriorated seal between the shower wall and the shower tray.
