Started June 2012 with over 10 years experience, James Scott introduced UCBJ (Under Construction by James) as one of Baton Rouge’s up and coming leaders in the residential and commercial construction services. After many long hours, blood, sweat, and tears, James Scott began to capitalize on the need for competitive pricing and quality management in the community, thus improving the lives of the locals and educating them on the process of remodeling and fixing everyday misfortunes.

We are a construction company. Mainly a two guy team but do bring on others if the job calls for more hands. We generally start a job by speaking with the consumer and viewing the location of interest. We give free estimates and talk with home owners about the cost breakdown. Small Job payment is expected at the completion of the job. Large jobs may required payment draws thru-out the job.

Residential and commercial fence contractor. Tiger Fences works with wood, ornamental aluminum, vinyl, composite, wrought iron, and chain link fencing. We also design and install custom pergolas.

"Very friendly;however, half way through the job, they starting using only one screw per board instead of two. Now the boards are starting to bow and pull away from the bottom. The 2 gates that were built are dragging the ground and twisting. They will not latch anymore."

Posts for a horizontal fence should be no more than 6 feet apart. Wood pickets are not as strong when mounted horizontally as when mounted vertically. As such, the fence panels on a horizontal fence can’t cover the same span between posts as a vertical fence can. If you install the posts further apart on a horizontal fence, the fence will lose stability, making the boards more likely to sag.

Yes, fence posts need to be installed below the frost line to ensure stability and prevent heaving caused by freezing and thawing cycles. The frost line is the depth at which soil freezes during winter. By placing posts below this line, often around 3 to 4 feet deep or as recommended for your specific region, you reduce the risk of the ground shifting, which can lead to leaning or unstable fences. Adequate depth provides better anchoring and helps maintain the fence's integrity, ensuring it remains secure and upright throughout changing seasons.

Installing a fence in fall and winter will often save you money. These are the slow times for most fencing companies since fewer people tend to use their backyard during these seasons. Plus, installing a wood fence during the fall allows the wood to season without the heat of the summer sun.

If you hire a fence installer for the project, the time it takes to build a fence is about 20 to 30 hours. Tackling the project yourself will take around 40 to 50 hours. It can take longer if you need to obtain permits, level the ground, remove the old fence, or remove a tree.

Installation typically takes 2-5 days, depending on the fence size and site conditions.
