Permit requirements for new fencing vary based on location. Typically, fences less than 6 feet tall in your backyard do not require a permit. Fences in the front yard usually have a lower height cap. Wrought iron fences are incredibly strong and durable, but they can be susceptible to rust and corrosion, so you’ll need to clean and refinish your fence every two to three years.
