"The level of service I received from Ohlmann Lawn Care was exceptionally good. I hired them to clean out some thick weeds and thatch from around my shrubs. Eric not only removed all the yard waste but also shaped up the shrubs and bushes nicely. I would gladly use Ohlmann Lawn Care services again and would highly recommend them to anyone who needs a variety of lawn care services. My thanks to Eric and all the folks at All-Star Pros for their recommendation. Sincerely, Barry D."

"I recently hired Franklin Landscape and Lawn Service to remove a tree from my property, and I am extremely satisfied with their work! The team was professional, knowledgeable, and arrived on time. They explained the process clearly and executed the removal with precision, ensuring minimal disruption to my yard. The cleanup was fantastic; my property looked better than before! Their pricing was fair and transparent, with no hidden fees. I highly recommend Franklin Landscape and Lawn Service for any tree removal needs. I will definitely use them again in the future. "My property and roof was blanketed/ covered in leaves. About 1/3rd acres. Two Brothers Landscaping sent a two-man crew that cleared away every leaf and packed the leaves in their trailer. The yard/ gardens looks like it was vacuumed. I was very pleased with the service and will definitely hire them again. Highly recommended."

"I mowed my own lawn last year because of the bad experiences I have previously had with others. I hired Jason and his crew this year based on the great recommendations going back years and years. In the last week, based on the outstanding job they did on the lawn, I also asked them to lay sod and trim a tree. They did an outstanding job both times, doing both in a timely manner and cleaning up so that that you wouldn't even know they had been there. I would recommend ZoomScapes and Jason to anyone!"

"Quality Landscaping Hardscape was recommended to me by a neighbor for some landscaping cleanup, edging, and mulching. The quality of their work is such that I have hired them many more times for major clean up of my horribly overgrown landscape and now have them come monthly to keep everything in shape. I also have them take care of my Mom?s landscaping as well. They always go above and beyond. I highly recommend them."

Lawn Care questions, answered by experts

In general, cool-season grasses such as fescue grass, ryegrass, and Kentucky bluegrass are best for creating a striped lawn. Warm-season grasses like bermuda and zoysia grass don't curl as much, so grass stripes aren't as easy to see. If you live in a climate that’s better suited for warm-season grass, zoysia grass will typically be your best option.

Lawn mower blades should be sharp enough that you can feel the sharpened edge, but not sharp enough to cut you when you touch them. Over-sharpening blades to a fine, razor-edge poses a safety risk and decreases the blade's life because it causes extra wear; the thinner edge is sharper but weaker and will require more frequent sharpening.

Start your search for a good lawn care company by finding some landscapers in your area; it might be a good idea to research companies that already work on your block, as they’re more likely to be able to fit you into their schedules, given your proximity. Next, conduct a search online to see if they have positive customer reviews, and try to avoid companies that have poor scores or a history of complaints with the Better Business Bureau. Finally, make sure to ask each company about pricing, contracts, scheduling, and any add-on services.

Planting grass from seed requires time to grow before it can handle even light foot traffic. Most varieties require a minimum of three months before you can walk on them regularly. You can expect to wait at least one year before your lawn can hold up to heavy use. Because sod is already established, it can be walked on more quickly than grass planted from seed.

No, you don’t need to edge your lawn every time you mow it, but you can if that’s your preference. Some homeowners edge their lawns weekly, every other week, monthly, or at the start of a new season (more likely for those with landscaping material like brick, plastic, or metal edging). It’s up to you how often you edge, and it depends on how quickly your grass grows and how crisp you want your edge lines to be.
