The modern suburban and small town home of today has become an ideal lightning target. The home owner would do well to recognize lightning for the destructive force that it is and protect against this major life and fire hazard. Donohue's Lightning Rods is based in Missouri, near the factory where most of the residential and commercial lightning rod supplies are manufactured. Jim travels regularly to Texas, Louisiana, Arkansas, Missouri, Kansas, Montana, Wyoming, Colorado, and New York. Call today to find out when Jim will be in your area. For installations outside Missouri, Kansas, or Texas, Jim waits until there are a few customers lined up, thus being able to provide the same quality services at affordable prices. **WE DO NOT DO ELECTRICAL SERVICES.** (ONLY LIGHTNING RODS)

"The job was beautifully and professionally done. I have a zero scape yard and the gentleman was concerned about disturbing the gravel when putting the rod into the ground. WOW!!!!"

Appliance Doctor is a family owned business that has been in Wichita since 1988.

"I used this company a couple of times when our heating or a/c went out as they were who the original owners had used. They replaced an a/c unit for us when the old one died, but I later found out when it needed a major repair that a) the unit was not under warranty as the installer hadn't sent in the paperwork for it, but that it had been installed incorrectly, was not up to code, and the coolant had not been added properly, causing us to need an expensive repair only a couple of years later that should have been covered by a warranty, but that we had to pay for out of pocket. Also, when our furnace broke, I was informed that the problem was very serious and potentially deadly and would cost $2000 to fix. Something about the exchange just gave me a bad feeling, so I called for a second opinion. It turned out that the issue he had "found" was fine, and that the real problem was a loose screw that was allowing air into the unit. In two minutes a new screw was screwed in and our problem was fixed for $80. We also discovered that previous work that had been done was again no to code/not done properly and had to be fixed. I would not call this person again. We have had far more success with other businesses, and I feel confident that they are doing the job right."

Generator Install questions, answered by experts

A portable generator can supply power to selected appliances and circuits in a home, but it's generally not designed to handle the entire household's electrical needs simultaneously. Portable generators have limited wattage capacity, so they are only designed to power essential devices and electronics temporarily until local power is restored. If your power needs outweigh the capabilities of a portable generator, consider installing a whole-home generator instead.

Setting up utilities on a vacant property usually takes at least a few months, or between 6 weeks to 16 weeks. This process requires working with the local planning and zoning department, hiring a building contractor or engineer to design the utility layout, securing permits, laying the lines, and connecting the utilities.

You may need a permit for a portable generator if you’ll be installing a transfer switch for your primary residence or similar work. Otherwise, a permit for other uses may not be necessary. Check your local building codes or ask a local generator installer for more information about your local regulations.

Yes, whole-house generators run constantly for extended periods. Whole-house generators can run for longer periods of time than portable generators, but be careful. First, they may need regular applications of engine oil (as frequently as daily), depending on the engine design. Second, running constantly for several days will increase the wear and tear on the generator and shorten its lifespan.

No, this is extremely dangerous, often illegal, and you should never attempt it. If you connect your generator to your home without a transfer switch, the generated power can backfeed, essentially flowing back into the utility lines. Backfeeding exposes a significant threat of fatalities or harm to you and utility personnel, in addition to jeopardizing the structural integrity of your home.
