Based in Lawrence, KS, Dirt Clods Landscaping, LLC specializes in hardscape design and installation using natural stone. Our region wide portfolio demonstrates additional expertise in plants, lighting and carpentry. Our individual craftsmanship and dedication to quality will transform any area into a beautiful outdoor space you can be proud of!

"We had let our backyard go, and it was full of tall weeds. They came in and cleared out all the weeds, and put down new mulch to prevent future weeds. They also added mulch to our front yard areas. The gave a quote and performed the work just as we expected. I asked for a few more areas to be mulched after they left, and they gladly came back and touched up those areas for me. Very professional."

Mulch and Topsoil questions, answered by experts

Yes, a cubic yard of dirt will fit in most standard-size pickup trucks. However, consider the truck’s payload as well as the truck bed dimensions before loading it up with dirt. Soil can be quite heavy, and if the total weight of a yard of dirt exceeds your truck’s payload capacity, you risk damaging the chassis and suspension.

Delivery services save time and effort, ensuring precise quantities reach your site conveniently and reducing the physical strain of self-transportation and handling.

The best mulches for trees are wood chips, bark nuggets, or pine straw. Depending on your goals, you may want to avoid using plastic, stone, rubber, or wet grass clippings. Plastic mulch prevents water from reaching the mulched areas of your tree, stones don’t offer any nutritional benefits to the soil, rubber can release byproducts into the soil when it decomposes, and wet grass clippings can lead to rot.

Plastic may prove beneficial in cold climates in the winter, but wood chips are the ideal option for most environments.

Hydroseeding is a great option for sloped yards, as sod might not root as well. Hydroseeding also traditionally creates sprouts faster than normal seeding—up to a full week faster. Additionally, you can customize your slurry mix with hydroseed, allowing you to create a mixture that will work specifically for your yard’s conditions.

It’s important to remember that hydroseeded lawns require a lot of water during the first few weeks of installation, which can be time-consuming and costly. Additionally, the installation window tends to be shorter than that of sod and traditional grass.

Costs depend on waste volume, service frequency, and additional options like bulk pickups.
