"June was an excellent choice for painting my living room, dining room, and crown molding in my home. She did a truly professional job. Can t believe how well she can stay within the lines! She is truly an artist. I thought her prices were really reasonable also. We also had a water stain on our master bath ceiling that she fixed. She not only paints, but she does an excellent job of filling in cracks and seams. I would recommend her highly to anyone needing a painter!"

Deck Staining questions, answered by experts

Here's the deal with leaving used rags covered in oil-based stain lying around in a pile: Depending on the conditions, these rags can take just an hour or up to a few days to combust. The source of ignition is caused by trapped heat that can be compounded if the rags are near a heat source.

It’s necessary for paint to completely dry before exposure to rain, and that drying time varies by the type of paint used. Oil-based paint takes 6 to 8 hours to dry on average, meaning that’s the minimum time needed between the last brush stroke and the first raindrop. Latex paint dries faster at around 1 hour, and acrylic paint is even quicker, usually drying in about 30 minutes. If rain is in the forecast, check the paint manufacturer's details before laying on a new coat.

Avoid using cleaning products that are abrasive or contain bleach or acidic components on composite decking to avoid discoloration. Early-generation Trex decking isn’t designed to handle pressure washer cleaning—and if you use them on second-generation boards, always use a low setting to avoid the risk of damage that can risk voiding your warranty.

The best exterior paint for the job of painting your front porch depends on the material you’ll be painting. Acrylic paint is often recommended for a wooden porch as it’s durable and easy to apply. If your porch is made of concrete, you’ll need to find a formula suited to that material.

The opposite is actually true: Wood stains tend to appear lighter when they’re fully dry. However, stains may darken as they weather and oxidize with age. Stains might also darken on surfaces left in direct sunlight, as UV rays can break down pigment particles and cause them to darken over time.
