Small jobs welcome

"I had a new door installed along with hardware (knob and lock), and Britian did an excellent job. He arrived on time, was professional, and explained the process clearly before starting. The installation was quick but very precise?the door fits perfectly, and the hardware works smoothly and feels secure. What stood out most was his customer service. Britian was kind, respectful, and patient, answering my questions and making sure I was completely satisfied. He even cleaned up the work area when finished. I highly recommend Britian for any door or hardware installation. Skilled, efficient, and courteous from start to finish."

"We are a traveling contractor, working in Topeka and needed help with some commercial doors that needed everything from new laminating, hardware replaced, frames and doors adjusted, pretty much everything you can possibly need done to a door! I contacted Kansas Door Company, always answers the phone, went out of their way to juggle schedules to help us make a severely tight deadline, sent out three men that were not scared of putting in hard work nor lazy! They showed up ready to work, was informed of our needs and the task at hand, and then then they took it from there and handle the job with aggressive approach! It was an hourly rate and they did not drag their feet! I was very impressed and satisfied with their speed, quality, knowledgeable, and manners!! I had to leave this review, they totally earned it!! Everything they did was quick and properly done! I wish you guys the best, thank you!"

"Everything was great....until I didn't hear from them again about my sliding door foot lock, three screens that arrived damaged, and the gift card they promised.  I have sent emails asking about these items with no response, yet I get several requests to "review" them on different sites.

Doors questions, answered by experts

Yes, barn doors can be too heavy, although the limitation is usually imposed by the mounting hardware you buy and not your home’s framing, unless you’re building an unusually wide door. To keep the weight down, you can opt for 1-by material rather than 2-by material, and choose a softwood like pine rather than a hardwood like maple or oak. Check the weight limits on your mounting hardware, and always attach your door track to studs rather than to drywall anchors.

A slab door is a standalone door without a frame or hardware. A prehung door is a complete set that includes the door, frame, hinges, and sometimes the doorknob and lockset.

In most cases, a prehung door is the better and easier option to install, especially for DIY projects or exterior applications, as they often come pre-weatherproofed. They require fewer tools and less experience to install properly. Although prehung doors are heavier and have a higher upfront cost, the investment is often worthwhile for a complete upgrade that includes a new frame.

A slab door may be a better choice if you are on a tight budget, have a custom-sized wall opening, or only need to replace the door while keeping the existing frame. While the initial cost is lower, you will need to purchase all the hardware separately and do more DIY work to hang it, which may not result in significant time or money savings.

Sometimes, these two terms are used interchangeably, but they are separate parts of a door, and each serves a different function. The sill helps ensure the doorframe is secure, and the threshold helps protect the sill and direct water away from the door to prevent leaks.

An interior French door should last you anywhere between 30 and 50 years, while an exterior French door unit will last around 15 to 30 years on average. Exactly how long your French doors last depends on the quality of the materials you choose, with vinyl doors lasting far less time than fiberglass, metal, and clad-wood doors. Upgrading to shatterproof glass can also improve the lifespan of exterior French doors.

The best material for door sills depends on durability, aesthetics, and budget. Standard options include wood, metal, and stone. Wood offers a classic look but may require more maintenance. Metal sills, like aluminum or stainless steel, boast durability and resistance to corrosion, making them suitable for modern designs. Stone sills, such as granite or marble, provide elegance and longevity but are more expensive. Ultimately, the choice depends on personal preference and practical considerations.
