"We are extremely happy with how our new windows and new front door turned out. After some unexpected challenges with the way our home was built, our installation crew quickly and efficiently adapted to make sure our windows and door were installed with expert care. Every time we see our new beautiful picture window we are left breathless! And our beautiful front door is the perfect upgrade for the look of our home. Thank you RBA!"

"Rick, Tyler, and Mark @ Ground Works were great! They were very professional, respectful, reliable, and considerate! They called to keep us updated on their arrival and arrived at the time they told us that they would. Rick evacuated the cracks we had in our basement walls, inspected inside and outside of our house, and gave us recommendations as to how to secure the walls. After making his suggestion to help solve the situation, he shared diagrams and dimensions of the project before giving us a written estimate of the job. Tyler and Mark came out to complete the project. Tyler called to confirm the time that they would arrive, arrived on time, walked with us down the basement and showed us on his tablet, as well as in the basement, what they were going to do. They protected our floors by covering the tile and carpet and did a thorough clean up! They were very professional, respectful, reliable and honest! Thank you for a job well done! I am very impressed and are highly recommend"

Windows questions, answered by experts

The material around a window is simply called the window frame, but the individual pieces also have different names. The top portion of the frame is called the head, the side pieces are called jambs, and the bottom portion is called the sill. If you have multiple windows next to each other, you’ll also have a mullion, which is the frame piece that separates the individual windows. Windows stacked on top of each other are separated by a horizontal frame piece, which is called a transom.

Common problems include broken latches, misaligned tracks, and worn seals. Regular inspection prevents major repairs.

There are several downsides to choosing casement windows for your home. Firstly, casement windows can cost significantly more than standard windows—especially if you need to install custom windows. If you plan on installing window AC units, then casement windows aren’t the best option, as it can be difficult to fit an AC unit into windows that open sideways or outwards.

The hinges on casement windows also pose a higher risk for break-ins, as rust and wear and tear can make the hardware easier for burglars to break into.

Costs depend on window size, type, material, and labor. Custom shapes or sizes typically incur higher expenses; full installation includes removing old windows.

Egress windows are typically required for basements with habitable space or living quarters. Not all basements or lower levels require egress windows. However, egress windows are required in homes with living spaces such as bedrooms and living rooms in a basement. The International Residential Code and International Building Code require sleeping rooms to have a specific size egress window. Check your local building codes to confirm the requirements in your area.
