"Sam and his crew were outstanding from start to finish! Sam's son, Lavern, was great on keeping us informed along the way. Definitely recommend to anyone looking to do an addition to their home. They also did a great job on reroofing entire home. The new garage addituon looks like it was built when the house was originally built. Great quality work and attention to detail! Outstanding job and a job well done!!!!!"

"We couldn't be more pleased with the entire experience. We were sold the job that remedied our situation and nothing more. No high pressure/fear based sales. Thank you Sage. The crew was prompt, respectful, efficient and executed their tasks with minimal disruption and mess. That is a feat when using a jack hammer and carrying out buckets of earth/concrete! Thank you Rubin and Juan. We secured 3 bids by three companies. Acculevel was by far the most reasonable. We have thus far had a couple weather events that normally would have produced some seepage. I am happy to report our basement was dry as a bone."

"Hired to do valuation of a manufactured home - not on land. Gave appraisal comparison properties included land. therefore not an accurate valuation. Thought salesperson understood nuance."

Home Inspection questions, answered by experts

Closing out an open building permit requires that you have your professional schedule a final inspection of the work they completed. In some cases, like a roof replacement or solar installation, a building inspector from your local municipality may just carry out a drive-by inspection. In other cases, like new construction or a change to interior plumbing or electrical work, the inspector might need to gain access to your home to confirm that the work was done in accordance with the local building code.

Checking for mold yourself is crucial, as catching mold in the early stages is ideal. Mold can appear green, brown, black, blue, or yellow. It can smell musty and can feel like velvet, leather, or cotton.

Most often, mold grows near water damage. It’s best to inspect these places for signs of mold growth:

  • Basement: Look in corners, windows, carpet, closets, and around appliances.

  • Bathrooms: Check around sinks, ceilings, and around toilets.

  • Kitchen: Inspect around the sink, behind the refrigerator, and behind trash can.

  • Attic: Look near the insulation and near intake and exhaust vents.

Yes, an inspection contingency is likely a good idea, regardless of if you’re buying a new or older home. It can give you a set number of days to respond to objections that might have been found in the inspection so you can make an informed buying decision.

You can start inspecting your roof from the ground by looking for unevenness in the roof lines and slopes. Keep an eye out for broken, damaged, or missing shingles, and look for visible gaps where the roofing material meets exterior walls or roof penetrations, like your chimney. If you’re comfortable getting up on your roof and using the necessary safety equipment, you can get a closer look at these areas to identify signs of damage. If you notice any potential issues, it’s best to call in a professional to confirm your findings.

Insurance companies will often take pictures of your house to confirm property details before issuing a policy or after receiving a claim. The insurance company may keep these photos on hand to compare to later pictures if you make a claim. It’s common for an insurance company to send someone to photograph the exterior of your home and your property without notifying you in advance. However, they’ll need to let you know ahead of time if they need to take interior pictures.
