Contractor kept demanding more money but never showed up with materials. Basically stole $8,000 from me and is now running. Couldn't be served with court documents because business was abandoned, mail returned, and not answering phone. There are no words to describe how big a mistake it was to do business with this company."

Due to having a fence and dogs and a work schedule that sometimes does not accommodate last minute arrivals, Brandon has done a fantastic job of keeping me posted on his arrival, of any schedule changes (due to rain), and overall really connecting to make sure that our yard needs are being met. The customer service is really what makes Turner Scapes stand out. In addition, our yard looks amazing! The trimming was poorly done or not done at all. When we finally ended the agreement, they have attempted to charge us for weekly mowing when they were not coming every other week. The most common alternative is burning the stump first, then dealing with the cinders and ashes. As you can imagine, this option creates fire hazards, especially since roots can burn underground, hidden, for long afterward. That’s why many states and cities have outlawed the use of stump burning entirely. We do not recommend this option as a viable alternative unless you get a permit from the local fire department and practice all safe burning procedures.

Others prefer a more long-term DIY approach of degrading the stump with home mixtures like Epsom salt and vinegar injected directly into it. This may help the stump decay faster, allowing homeowners to dig it out themselves, but it’s still a lengthy process. It usually takes months for a stump to start falling apart with such treatments, and in the meantime, it can be vulnerable to rot, insects, and other problems.

All of the tree root removal methods mentioned above are effective on any kind of root, whether it’s still growing or simply needs a gentle nudge to finish decomposing. The only difference is that larger roots tend to be harder to remove and may require multiple chemical treatments as well as manual labor to eradicate.

You can expect Epsom salt and vinegar to take between 6 to 12 months to kill and dry out a tree. That may sound like a long time, but it’s much faster than it takes most tree stumps to die. If your time frame is more limited than that, you may want to call in the stump removal pros to remove the trunk or grind it down, although this may cause more ground damage.

Bleach can potentially kill some types of delicate ornamental trees, but for the most part, it will only kill the foliage it comes in contact with.
