"Called to have a new thermostat installed on a heat pump. I ask what they charge and the girl told me they charge $110 per hour and the charges start when he arrives. The man came and installed a non-programmable heat pump thermostat that costs less then $40 at home depot. I was charged a $110 diagnostic fee and then 214.84 for the thermostat plus and 18.00 fuel surcharge. I paid $354 for less than an hour of work. Make sure you get the charges clarified if you use these guys and buy your own thermostat!"

We offer no money down financing for residential solar projects. "I would recommend taking your business elsewhere. We signed a contract with them in Nov '21 for work to be completed in May '22 for a large multi-house project. In Nov '22 the work was finally "completed." Throughout that time there was minimal to no communication. I would get text messages about a work crew coming to work on the install and no one would ever show up. I would get last minute text messages asking for access to inside areas they had previously claimed they didn't need access. I have had them call and inform me that a "string of panels" was not functioning, only to have the tech arrive and say everything looks fine and it's all working. I still have never been given access to the system monitoring software, despite claims that I have, so I have no way of verifying if anything is working outside of random screenshots they send of their computer monitors. On of the least professional companies I've encountered. Save yourself the headache and look elsewhere."

Energy Efficiency Auditing questions, answered by experts

There are several indications of an overloaded electrical panel, such as frequent circuit breaker tripping, burn marks, or flickering or dimming lights.

If you’re observing any warning signs, turn the circuit breaker off, then shift some devices from the overloaded circuit to a different one. If there are still signs of overload after turning the circuit break back on, contact a professional electrician to help you fix the issue.

Some types of electric fireplaces use more electricity than others. Models that produce 1,500 watts will have more of an effect on your heating bill than 750-watt models.

Electric fireplaces use an average of $1.85 of electricity every eight hours. These minimal operational costs aren’t likely to make a big difference in your electric bill—unless you’re using it as a primary heating source for your home and it’s running most of the time.

Keep the unit full but not overloaded, ensure door seals are tight, set correct temperatures, and avoid frequent door openings. Position the appliance away from heat sources for optimal performance.

When combined with a substantial solar system, if you have enough Powerwalls, you could go off-grid and be energy independent. But remember, you'd need enough Powerwalls to power your whole home continuously because a single Powerwall can’t power large appliances for extended periods. One Powerwall is able to power an average-sized home's emergency circuits, lights, and outlets. To power large appliances, you likely need two or three Powerwalls.

The difference between an energy auditor and a home inspector is primarily in the purpose of the inspection. The energy auditor conducts tests in your home to determine the energy efficiency levels in areas like windows, insulation, and doorways. The auditor then makes recommendations for ways to improve a home’s energy efficiency

A home inspector examines various structures of your home to determine that everything is up to code and gauge the condition of features like the roof, foundation, HVAC, and electrical. The home inspector reports on the overall home and makes repair recommendations.
