When they came back to the house to do work for the seller they moved the box without giving me a quote or discussing it with me. In addition they left a real mess such as holes in the wall...etc. they then charged me $610. Bottom line they did work I never agreed to ha e them do."

If your ceiling is more than eight feet high, it’s recommended by experts that the ceiling fan be mounted around eight to nine feet from the ground. Manufacturers of ceiling fan-rated boxes must indicate on the box that the unit is for that purpose. To check your model, remove the light fixture and look inside the box for wording that says it’s rated for fan use. If you don’t see words saying so, it likely needs to be replaced with an appropriate one that is rated for use with a ceiling fan.

Most ceiling fans have a lifespan of anywhere from five to 15 years or 10 years on average. Just how long your ceiling fan lasts depends on the quality of the parts, how much it’s used, and how well you maintain it. A fan with a weak motor that runs on the medium setting nonstop is likely to have a shorter lifespan compared to a fan with a powerful motor that runs on the slowest setting for air circulation.

If your home already has wires for a ceiling fan (and optional light kit), then it’s quite safe to wire and install it yourself. Most bathrooms already have ventilation and don’t need a ceiling fan.
