"The entire process from start to finish was a breeze! Did I mention that I was on a cruise and out of the country! As a surprise for my husband I hired Spencer to install the fan. He had to cut a hole, run the cords, and put in a new switch! We were able to work out all the details before we left and came home to an absolutely beautiful Chandelier Fan! Looks like it should have been there all along! Spencer was so polite and professional the entire time! Even when we weren’t available because of the cruise he was able to call family members who I left numbers for to ask about specifics that I would prefer! I have a few more projects I will definitely be hiring him for! Thank you Spencer!"

Ceiling Fans questions, answered by experts

If the fan doesn’t have a switch, connect the white wire from the ceiling to the white wire from the fan; connect the green wire to the ground wire; connect both black wires; and connect both blue wires. If yours has a switch, the white and green wires are connected the same way. However, connect the ceiling’s red wire to the light’s black wire and the ceiling’s black wire to the fan’s black wire.

There are several types of ceiling fans, each with their own purpose or advantage. A standard ceiling fan works for most spaces, but low-profile ceiling fans are better suited to rooms with low ceilings. You can also find ceiling fans with lights, energy-efficient ceiling fans, and retractable blade ceiling fans.

For a 12x12 room, a fan between 36" and 50" will work, as it falls in the range for spaces up to 144 square feet. These size fans provide adequate air circulation and ensure a comfortable environment without being overpowering. Even better, they come in a broad range of styles, offering aesthetics and functionality, making them suitable choices for maintaining an ideal room temperature and enhancing overall comfort.

No, a ceiling fan doesn’t have to be wired to a switch, but it’s often more convenient. You can use the included pull chain if your ceiling isn’t too high or install a remote module later, as they are a cheap, easy-to-install option that’ll let you control both the fan and light fixture.

Identifying the source of noises is your first step to soundproofing a room without overspending. Generally, sound comes from inside or outside of the house. Inside noises include creaking floors, living noises like TVs in the living room, cooking sounds, or kids being kids. External noises generally include incremental weather, disturbing neighbors, and street traffic. Inside noises require you to soundproof floors, ceilings, and doors, whereas outside noises may require you to soundproof your attic, windows, and walls facing the streets.
