"I had an absolutely terrible experience with this place, and I would strongly recommend avoiding it. I called ahead for a simple key to be made for my 2009 car, and was quoted $45 over the phone. But when I got there, the price suddenly jumped to $144 due to various "add-ons" they conveniently didn’t mention upfront. Okay, fine, I decided to go ahead with it. I asked how long it would take because I had an appointment in an hour to release balloons for my girlfriend’s son who passed away. They told me 15-20 minutes. After waiting for more than 40 minutes, I went to check on the progress. That’s when I found out the person struggling with the key was actually the owner. I simply asked how much longer it would take, and his response? He told me I was “being pushy” and that I wasn’t helping the situation. I wasn’t being rude, I was just asking for a time update. At this point, I realized I was going to be late for my appointment , so I said I couldn’t wait any longer and would just come back. The owner got visibly upset and tried to tell me I still owed him for cutting the key, despite the fact that the key didn’t even work! I told him I wasn’t going to pay for something that was useless, and his response? He called me an “*******”! He tried to pressure me to pay for services that he didn't do. I asked if he was the owner, and when he said yes, I told him that’s not how you treat customers if you want to earn future business. It was honestly shocking to see such unprofessionalism, especially coming from someone who owns the business. He couldn’t have cared less about providing good customer service, and his attitude was completely disrespectful. If you want to be treated poorly, with terrible customer service, and a bait-and-switch pricing tactic, this is the place to go. But if you want to spend your money where you’re treated with basic decency and respect, take your business elsewhere."

Locksmiths questions, answered by experts

Rekeying door locks yourself costs a fraction of what you would expect to pay a locksmith. On average, it costs between $50 to $100 to hire a local locksmith to rekey your house, though labor costs may vary based on where you live. For a DIY solution, you can expect to spend $11 to $25 on a rekeying kit.

Expect to pay between $50 to $200 if you hire a locksmith to change your locks. That figure includes labor and the cost of basic hardware. The cost will naturally be higher if you plan to install more expensive locks, like smart locks, and if you need a lot of them.

Homeowners can save money by replacing locks themselves. A typical rekeying kit costs about $10 to $25. The only additional cost is purchasing new house keys, and those are no more than a few dollars per key. If you want to replace the locks on your own completely, the main cost is the price of the locks themselves. A standard knob-style lock starts around $25, while electronic locks and smart locks will run in the hundreds of dollars. The only additional tools you should need are a tape measure, screwdriver, and screws if they are not already provided.

It’s possible, but depends on the design of your lock. Some door locks that lack a keyhole do boast a small hole on the exterior handle or knob. This hole’s primary function is to allow water to drain out of the lock, in addition to giving homeowners an easy spot to insert lubrication. However, you can typically use a paperclip in this pinhole to unlock the door by manipulating the mechanism inside.

It depends on the quality of the keyless lock and usage, but in general, you can expect a keyless lock to last around three to five years. The batteries typically last around six to 12 months. The good news is most keyless locks include a low battery indicator so you can receive ample warning if your battery is about to die.

A door lock service is performed by a professional locksmith, and the cost of hiring a locksmith for these kinds of repair tasks usually runs in the $100 to $250 range. It all depends on the type of locks you have, how many locks are included in the service, and where your home is located. Always choose reliable, trustworthy locksmiths, and get a few quotes before making your choice.
