Whether tree roots will regrow after the tree has been cut down depends on the species. Some eventually tree roots die, as they lack photosynthesis; however, others can resprout from the roots and even produce new growth for up to seven years or more, if they belong to a species that reproduces through root sprouts.

The speed of your tree root removal process depends on a few different factors, including the size and type of tree. However, the fastest method of killing tree roots is applying chemical herbicide, which starts working quickly and efficiently. Manual removal is the only method that includes removing the tree’s roots. Otherwise, root removal is considered a separate job—and depending on the complexity of your root system, you can expect to pay between $100 and $200 per hour for a tree professional to remove roots safely.

Using a truck to remove a bush falls into the category of “just because you can, doesn’t mean you should.” While it is possible to use a truck to pull out a bush, if you don’t have the right equipment, if you’re not familiar with attaching things to your vehicle correctly, or if you don’t have enough room, it’s a risky option. To prevent damage to your vehicle, it’s worth using tools made for the job of digging and cutting roots instead.
