Small jobs welcome

Hi! I'm Ty Rykse, owner of Washed Away. We specialize in exterior cleaning for homes, patios, decks, driveways, and more. At Washed Away, we believe in doing the job right the first time and standing behind our work. Our top priority is making sure every customer is happy and that their property looks exactly how they envision it.\n\nA little about me — I’m a 21-year-old college student and college basketball player. I’ve been in the pressure washing business for over three years, during which I’ve gained hands-on experience and developed the skills to tackle a wide range of cleaning challenges. I’ve learned what works — and just as importantly, what doesn’t — to deliver high-quality results.\n\nI’d be honored to earn your business and help bring new life to your property!

"What a great experience! Bill kept us in the loop throughout the whole job explaining each step and where he was at each day until complete. We had new porch posts and railing installed along with our deck power washed, sanded and repainted and other areas on the house repainted. His work is impeccable and we would definitely hire him again. In fact, our neighbors were so impressed with his work they intend to hire him also!! Thx you Bill"

Deck Maintenance questions, answered by experts

While experienced DIYers may take on the challenge, hiring a licensed professional is often the best route, especially for larger or elevated structures. A local deck contractor is typically the best pro for the job, as they have specialized experience and are knowledgeable about local building codes, ensuring your deck is built safely and designed to last. Other professionals who can build a deck include general contractors and carpenters, who may be more readily available in some regions.

Spindles on a deck may also be called balusters or pickets. While not as important to the structural support of the deck as the rail posts, they play a critical role in ensuring the deck is safe to use by closing in large gaps in the railing. For this reason, balusters must be no more than 4 inches away from one another.

Yes, Ipe wood is a popular high-end choice for pool decking. It repels water and is naturally slip-resistant. It's not susceptible to mold, mildew, or rot, either, so it lasts longer and is cleaner and more hygienic than other popular decking materials. However, remember that due to its status, it is a very high-cost wood, and you might find that an alternative would serve you just as well for significantly less.

It is definitely worth sanding a deck to ensure the wood absorbs new stain. Sanding a deck removes the outer layers of aging wood, allowing the stain to penetrate. It also gives a fresh look to the entire surface as part of the deck refinishing process. Without sanding, your stain or sealant is less likely to absorb into the wood. While sanding a deck is a time-intensive project, the rewards are noticeable and long-lasting.

The life expectancy of deck boards varies widely based on the material, climate, and maintenance. Untreated wood boards typically last 10 to 30 years with proper care, while pressure-treated boards can last up to 50 years. Hardwoods generally outlast softwoods. Composite boards also tend to last longer than natural wood. Environmental factors like arid or humid climates can shorten a deck's lifespan. To extend the life of wood decking, it's important to consistently clean and seal it to protect against moisture, UV light, and insects.
