"Hired to trim bushes, remove small trees, and weed in front of apartment. Work was thorough and completed as requested. The area cleared looks great, and neighbors also complemented it. Alan is very friendly and dedicated to completing the work to the owner’s specifications. Would hire again."

"Tate Tree Service is an excellent value for anyone looking for quality, efficent work done at an unbeatable price. I had a huge Elm branch that was hanging over my house removed, a large Callery Pear tree topped (20+') and a not easily accessible line of trees trimmed back at the edge of my property behind a guest house. Scott, Jason and Josh all did a great job and I would highly recommend them for any tree service you might need. Everything was done in only 3.5 hours AND Jason even cleaned my gutters out for me. You won't find a better value for less. Highly recommended, 5 stars. Thanks Tate Tree Service!"

"When we called for an estimate, the owner was at our home within 30 min. The estimate was reasonably priced. His work crew arrived to do the work within one week. Work was started and finished in one day. His men were very polite and well-mannered. After the work was finished the yard was completely picked up and raked. A leaf blower was used to remove sawdust from the walkways and carport. Ruts in the yard were smoothed out. We feel they do excellent work and will use them again on upcoming projects."

Arborists questions, answered by experts

After a big storm, you may not be sure if a tree was struck or not. Look for the telltale long scars, like strips or gouges in the bark of the tree, running in sometimes jagged lines down the length of the trunk. These scars will often show vulnerable living wood inside the tree. It’s also common to see scorched or wilted leaves on the side or top of the tree where lightning struck.

In most cases, you should not use a pruning seal on trees after trimming. Applying a sealant can interfere with the tree's natural healing process, and it does not guarantee protection from pathogens. Instead of sealing the cut, the best practice is to support the tree's natural recovery by providing it with plenty of water and a dormant-style fertilizer. However, there are exceptions. Pruning seals may be recommended for very vulnerable species, like elm trees, in areas where dangerous diseases such as Dutch elm disease are prevalent. In these specific situations, the protection offered by a sealant can outweigh its downsides. For advice tailored to your situation, especially after cutting large branches, it is best to consult a local tree trimming professional.

There are four common ways to prune a tree correctly: crown thinning, crown reduction, crown raising, and crown cleaning. The method you choose depends on the purpose of pruning. However, making the correct cuts is a vital part of the process, regardless of your method. Pruning incorrectly can damage or even kill the tree. So, you may want to hire a professional tree-trimming company to tackle the task.

Yes, many services include stump grinding to eliminate tripping hazards and improve aesthetics.

You may be looking to identify maple trees to use for home improvement projects. In that case, you can tell hard maples by looking at their leaves. Leaves will have a U-shaped dip, or sinus, between the points, or lobes, of the leaves. Leaves of soft maples tend to have V-shaped sinuses.

If you already have the cut wood in front of you, look for a light, uniform color to identify hard maple wood and check for variations of red, gray, or brown streaks and an overall darker color in soft maple wood.
