Precision Tile and Carpentry
Precision Tile and Carpentry
Precision Tile and Carpentry has been servicing the Chicago land area for the past two decades. We are family owned and operated. Each and every job is ran by my son and me or closely supervised by one of us. All jobs are held to a professional standard. We understand that we are guests in your home or business and we will be respectful, clean and try to keep the noise down as much as possible. We take every precaution to protect you and your home or business. We keep all work and walk areas clean and at the end of each day the work and walk areas will be picked up, cleaned and vacuumed. We take pride in all jobs we do no matter how big or small it is. Precision Tile and Carpentry has over 35 year’s experience in the tile and carpentry trades .Terry and his wife started in a trade school in California with a focus in tile. They were so determined to finish their schooling that they spent long days and nights studying to critique their technique. The professors and advisors noticed their hard work and helped them every step of the way, turning a two year program into just eight months. Upon completing the program they move right into the field as journeymen tile setters instead of a two year apprentice. After a few years of installing tile Terry realized he needed to know more about the building trades. So he stopped doing tile full time to take a job with a high end construction company. He started as a laborer hauling wood while still doing some tile on the side just to make ends meet. In five years’ time he move all the way through the company to become a finish carpenter. With the well rounded skills he now had acquired he returned to tile and was able to complete jobs more efficiently. Precision Tile and Carpentry is now ran by Terry and his son Shayne. Terry brought his son in at a young age to begin teaching him about work ethic and to pass on the knowledge that he had acquired. After bringing him on weekends and summers Terry noticed he had eye for design and the knowledge of computers which would become a valuable asset to the company. At the age of 30 Shayne became a full time partner in the family business. Although he is still learning the art of tile, He still brings valuable resources forward. Now we do most everything from the demolition to the finish base board and trim. We only do minor plumbing and electrical such as moving or replacing shower valves and shower heads. We are also able to replace or move electrical outlets. We can aid in the design and layout or help discover new products to meet your needs

"I really need to write 2 reviews. The work was done over 7 years ago. Up until one year after the work was completed I would have given him an excellent review. Strike 1 came after a year when I first went up to my unfinished, full house attic and discovered what a horrible mess he had left. Debris from the tear off of the 3 previous layers of shingles covered every inch of the attic, including large toys, boxes and furniture from my Mother-in-law stored there. We were not told to expect this. I did not even bother calling him about it since it was a year after he completed the work. Strike 2 came just about 4 to 6 months ago when I called him about an attic leak we spotted after investigating signs of possible water damage in the 2nd floor ceiling. I have tried without success to schedule a time for him to examine the roof and determine the cause of the leak. I believe we spoke directly maybe twice. He said he was waiting for the weather to clear. Since then we have had many days & weeks of good weather, but still no response. In total I believe I have called him at least 5 times. (By the way, it certainly did not take 5 calls to get an appointment for the estimate to do the initial work). He has not returned my most recent calls so I am moving on to another roofer recommended by a friend. So the moral of the story is to check your attic immediately after having a tear off/new roof installed by PRO TOP and hope you never have any leaks after. I would not expect this from a business whose prices are not exactly bargain level. Their estimate promises personal attention and quick service; unfortunately that was not my experience. Finally, if this job is too small or for some other reason he doesn't want to do it he should just say so and save me the time of chasing after him."

FAQs for contractor service projects in West Dundee, IL
Generally, general contractors charge between $50 and $150 hourly, though not every contractor charges by the hour. If charging based on the project, you can expect a markup of 10% to 20% of the construction cost. You can expect to pay between $300 and $500 daily if charged by the day.
General contractors are the ones that coordinate home construction projects. They are in charge of the day-to-day oversight of the subcontractors to ensure that the project is completed on time and to resolve problems as they arise. General contractors:
Complete pre-construction planning, both with the customer and crew
Provide realistic cost estimates
Develop construction timelines
Ensure deadlines are met
Acquire permits as needed
Purchase supplies and materials
Before hiring a general contractor for your home project, it’s a great idea to write down a list of questions to discuss with each prospect. Some example questions to get you started include:
Which types of insurance do you carry?
Can you provide a list of references?
What is the expected timeline for this project?
How will my project be supervised?
Will you hire subcontractors for the job?
What is the best way to communicate changes?
Will you obtain all of the required building permits?
While city and state laws vary on general contractor licensing requirements, hiring an unlicensed general contractor could lead to poor quality work, costly future expenses, and potential code violations. Be sure to check our state licensing tool to review the local general contractor guidelines for your area.
As you browse our pro listings, take note of the “Angi Approved” badge. Angi Approved businesses meet our standards for certification which include:
The owner, principal, or relevant manager passed a criminal background check
Required to have applicable state and local licenses
Maintain an average star rating of 3.0 or better on our network, if they have at least one review
Paying to advertise their services
Meeting any other eligibility criteria required by Angi
Keep in mind licensing is different from certifications. A license is a legal requirement to operate a business, while certifications are voluntary.
Yes, most general contractors require a down payment for project completion. A reasonable down payment for a contractor is 10% to 25% of the total project cost, though that will vary based on project size and location. The down payment helps cover the upfront costs of materials and permits and helps ensure payment for the project at hand.
