"Call this electrician! He s worth your call, don t wait for him to call you! He was fair, honest and went above and beyond our expectations. We got two other quotes, one being from another company (Service detectives) who charged us $89 for a QUOTE and then quoted us $19k for everything we wanted done. For the things we needed done (not the whole house but a new meter outside, wiring to the inside, new panel and several outlets rewired) Holtzclaw Electric did for 3 times less than S.D. Just call Brandon. You won t regret it."

"This was no simple project, it was necessary for several fixtures to be moved and a cabinet to be made to fit. We are a Public Library and are only open a few days a week with specific hours. In addition to this project, he has installed a light fixture in the ceiling, an emergency light, a smoke alarm and added a bookcase. Neil was able to work around our hours and install smoothly without disturbance to patrons inside. The work area remained clean while he was working and he followed through the complete job in a timely manner. He knew what tools he would need and came prepared. I have him on the agenda for more work in the future. The range of his skills allows for the Library to utilize his business for multiple projects in a wide variety of areas. The cost was wonderfully in our budget and he is able to give quotes immediately. Love working with him."

"618 did an excellent job. There were right on time, worked quickly, cleaned up and were very friendly. They seemed knowledgeable about electrical work and were more than fair with cost. They even installed my DirectTV! I love what they did and would most definitely recommend them."

"John installed an outdoor generator connection and a lockout on the main panel. A very fair price, good communication and a very professional, quality installation."

Generator Install questions, answered by experts

Generators are safe to use as long as they are installed and operated correctly according to the manufacturer's recommendations. The most critical safety tips are to never use a portable or fuel-powered generator inside an enclosed space due to the risk of lethal carbon monoxide poisoning; always operate it outdoors where fumes can dissipate away from your home. Additionally, never attempt to connect a generator to your home’s electrical panel yourself—hire a professional to ensure the setup meets safety standards. Finally, avoid overloading the generator by not connecting more appliances than it is rated for, as this can damage your equipment or cause a fire.

Here’s what you can run with different wattages and types of generators:

Portable generator:

  • 2,000 watts can handle a large appliance like a freezer or refrigerator, plus a few smaller items like phones or computer chargers.

  • 4,000 watts will keep two large appliances operating and a few smaller devices.

  • 8,000 watts should power most essential appliances and other devices, including a sump pump, well pump, or your dishwasher.

Partial to whole-house generator:

  • 20,000 watts and above will make it seem like your home’s power is still on.

Costs depend on generator type, labor, and additional wiring or transfer switch requirements.

While the rating will tell you how many watts the refrigerator needs at the peak of its cycle, it requires additional wattage to start. At the bare minimum, you’ll need a 1,500-watt generator to get the fridge up and running after a blackout. A 2,000-watt generator should be sufficient for most home refrigerators.

These advanced generators use a key fob or a smartphone app to remotely start, which is ideal for getting power back on immediately without venturing outside. This feature is more common on whole home generators, but you may be able to find it on large portable generators, too.
