"Perfect Touch did an outstanding job with our gutter cleaning! They were thorough, cleaned out all the gutters and downspouts, and made sure everything was flowing properly. What really impressed me was the attention to detail?they even sent clear photos after the job was done so I could see the results for myself. Professional, efficient, and reliable?highly recommend!"

Customers say: Quality work

"Donald, the Deck Doctor, cleaned and re-stained our deck and re-sealed our brick patio with polymeric sand. He was reasonably responsive and gave us a very competitive quote. So far, we're very happy with the end results and would highly recommend Deck Doctor. Note that Donald is basically a one man crew and he hires addictional help as needed."

"Daniel is a hard conscientious worker. He is very easy to work with and shares his ideas when asked. I totally trusted him with cleaning and staining my deck. I wanted a product used to strip and brighten the deck and he said he was happy to do the deck that way. I was extremely pleased with how the deck looked when finished. Daniel was very neat and precise in his work. I will totally use him for other projects."

"Juan arrived on the date and time agreed upon. Juan and a helper started right away in the laundry room and kitchenette areas. They did a excellent job matching the color around the kitchenette backsplash and windows. Cleanup was on point. I have reserved the right to do more businesses at a great price with Juan P. "Sixto and his crew were extremely polite and made sure to cover our furniture before painting for the day. They also cleaned up daily and gave us a report on what they accomplished that day and what was planned for the following day. Their pricing was very competitive and would hire them again. Great job !!"

Deck Cleaning questions, answered by experts

Most building codes require that spindles or balusters on deck and stair railings be spaced no more than four inches apart. This safety standard, often called the '4-inch sphere rule,' is designed to prevent small children or pets from slipping through the railing. A good way to visualize this is that a 4-inch sphere should not be able to pass between two spindles. For the same safety reason, the space between the bottom rail and the deck floor should also be no more than four inches. As a general guideline, professionals often install three balusters per foot of railing. However, since specific requirements can vary by location, it is crucial to check your local building codes to ensure compliance before starting your project.

While eco-friendly decking, also called composite decking, is a win for the environment because it consists of recycled materials, it has trade-offs. These sustainable options often come with steeper price tags, lack natural wood's warm look, and can become uncomfortably hot under full sun. Some composite materials can also become slick when wet, posing a potential hazard.

To flatten a cupped deck board, start by ensuring it’s dry. Then, try flipping the board over so the cupped side faces down and reattach it. If that’s not possible, you can use screws to pull it tighter to the joists or plane the edges slightly to reduce the cup. It’s best to replace severely cupped boards.

When sourced responsibly, the most sustainable wood decking options are timber trees like redwood, pine, Douglas fir, Nootka cypress, and Western red cedar. These tree species are fast-growing with low carbon emissions. Plus, most timber woods make durable deck materials because of their resistance to rot and decay over time.

The best base materials for a ground-level or floating deck are typically gravel and crushed stone (also known as landscaping rocks). These options are inexpensive, provide excellent drainage, prevent weeds, and help minimize moisture buildup, which reduces shifting and rotting. For added stability and to evenly distribute the weight, you can use concrete deck blocks or pavers. While more expensive, concrete blocks and pavers offer a sturdier base than gravel or crushed stone alone.
