"Our crawl space now has an R19 insulation value, the musty smell is completely gone and it is a usable space which we are using as storage which is awesome!  We had a 20' x 10' storage space that is no longer needed, the crawl space was more than enough room to put all that stuff into.  I bought a mechanics dolly so getting around the crawl space is easy, it is a clean, dry well insulated space now!  The crew that did the work was professional, courteous, on time and did a great job!  Their estimator/project manager Jason was a pleasure to deal with from the the time he came out to look at the job to when it was finished.  He has integrity and is responsive, he is trustworthy which is very important to me, I am in the mechanical contracting business and deal with sub-contractors on a daily basis so everything I have written not only comes from a personal experience as a homeowner but as a professional.  You will not be disappointed in any way using this company!"

"Roberto was the technician and he was very professional, polite, and personable. He inspected the rest of our system and told us things that needed to be changed or repaired. He showed me pictures of everything. Everything he told me about was accurate. He quoted me a price for R38 insulation , Some of our ducts were plastic and he recommended them to be changed. I agreed completely and didn't know they were plastic. I would have had them done the work but I had no price comparisons to make and besides I didn't have the money right then. So he just finished the vent cleaning and left his card. He did a great job on the vent cleaning and was happy with the work."

"Excellent, family-run business. I called on Monday afternoon about adding insulation and the job was *completed* within 48 hours. The estimator (company co-owner) recommended reasonable solutions and did not try to "sell" me on things I didn't need. The installers were very courteous, showed up early, cleaned up well, and even put my stuff they had to move right back where they found it. I wish I called them years ago. Very pleased with this job and company."

Insulation questions, answered by experts

There are many reasons one bedroom may be hotter than the rest of the house. The sun will quickly heat a south-facing bedroom with a large window, especially if it lacks quality curtains. If the room has poor insulation, this could let more warm outside air in. Upstairs bedrooms are often hotter than ground-floor rooms because heat rises. Finally, rooms further away from the air conditioning unit may heat up a lot if the system is not properly balanced.

Water heater blanket prices range from $20 to $40 on average, though you typically won’t need to spend more than $30 for all the tools and materials required for installation—which include the blanket itself, heavy-duty scissors, and electrical tape. Blankets with higher R-values will also be slightly higher in price.

It depends on your needs and preferences, though many homeowners think it is worth it. Not only is blown-in insulation easy to install, but it is highly efficient with thermal regulation. Most types are mold-resistant, flame-resistant, insect-resistant, and, most importantly, completely safe.

Traditional clapboard siding, particularly with panels made from wood, is not a significant insulator on its own. However, you can keep your home cooler in summer and warmer with "insulated clapboard siding," which is a type of vinyl clapboard siding with a built-in foam insulation. Consult a local siding contractor to determine whether insulated siding is right for your home.

Vapor barriers in attics are a bit outdated and most areas no longer recommend them for attic spaces. For vented attics, the best method is usually to install drywall and cover it with latex paint before attaching insulation fiberglass, cellulose, or foam insulation. When renovating an attic to use as a living space, a contractor can guide you on the best way to cover insulation.
