"I had multi-years of yard debris, a broken lawn swing, last year’s fall clean-up piled for removal and a 10’ by 40’ old wooden deck for demolition and removal. There were also sprinklers which were broken from last season and no one would respond for repair. Established lawn maintenance companies failed me with no response—too busy. These are credible and self-driven individuals who want to make a success of their business. They know that word of mouth is the best source of new work. I have a stack of their business cards for distribution in an effort to spread the word to hire this company for many handy-jobs. If your needs are not listed on their business cards—ask them. You’ll be pleasantly surprised at their experience in construction, lawn maintenance, and indoor cleaning."

"I have had a hard time finding a construction company that would call be back on Home Advisor, so did not have much confidence in hearing from Canyon Creek Landscaping. I received a call within twenty-four hours of contacting them. We did not have a clear vision for our yard...it was a bit of a blank slate. He worked with us to shape our yard into the retreat we wanted and did so to meet an important deadline. We could not be happier with the quality of work and look forward to working with him again on our next project."

"Excellent! Shay called me within several minutes of reaching out via Angie’s List. We scheduled an appointment for two business days later. Shay showed up on time and promptly got my landscape irrigation going. He also explained to me each step. Definitely recommend Shay and his Company."

"We have had several projects completed by Savage Landscape and Home Repair, including a 60? foot fence, a small block wall, and some paver work. In addition we had 200? feet of fence with a custom built gate installed at another property. The staff was amazing to work with, good communication, upfront quotes and timely completion. 10/10 would hire again."

Landscaping questions, answered by experts

Yes, you can landscape in the rain, but you should take some precautions to keep yourself and your tools safe. Avoid using electric landscaping tools during rainfall, and don’t mow, thatch, aerate, or rake in the rain, as your tools can more easily tear out roots in the loose soil. Be careful when working on wet grass, and take your time to avoid slipping. Avoid putting in new plants before a particularly bad storm, as heavy rain and strong winds can damage or uproot plants that aren’t yet established.

You should avoid planting grass, shrubs, plants, and trees in freezing temperatures, as the ground can get frozen and become too hard for proper root growth. It’s best to plant in the fall to allow your plants to establish root systems before the first frost. Landscaping when the average temperature in your area is between 50 and 60 degrees will usually deliver the best results.

Consulting your local university extension, Audubon society, or municipal urban forestry program are all good ideas when choosing a tree to plant. You can also ask an arborist or a knowledgeable landscaping company for advice on good trees to plant.

There are two main times of year to apply mulch: mid to late spring and late fall. Spreading mulch in mid to late spring helps protect new seedlings as the soil warms up. It's best to wait until temperatures are steady, as mulching too early in the spring can slow down the soil's warming process and hinder plant growth. Fall mulching is also beneficial, as it insulates the soil and helps regulate its temperature when the first frosts arrive.

If you are xeriscaping a lawn from scratch, your best bet for preparing the lawn is to work with a xeriscaping specialist in your area. The most common first step to making the transformation, however, will be to remove the turfgrass from your lawn. The subsequent steps will often include amending the soil to support new plants and installing low-drip or drip irrigation systems.
