Their bid was Fair to both me and the company. They did an excellent job on preparing the site and pouring the concrete. What everybody fears the most when they hire someone to work at their home is the people that are working there trustworthy? Are they going to be trips in and out of the house to use the bathroom? Al's people were wonderful. They did not make a mess outside leaving cans and bottles laying around all trash was picked up each day. They left everything all nice and clean and smoothed out some rough spots where the skid loader was at and where there was extra concrete dumped. I was really impressed with these people. Brick pavers look great and last long, but they’ll cost more up front. If you’re looking to keep your budget in check without sacrificing function, concrete is usually the more cost-effective choice.

In many cases, you will need a building permit for your patio, but it depends on the type of patio. Generally speaking, any improvements to your land considered “permanent” will require a permit. Since a concrete patio is a permanent foundation, you will need a permit. On the other hand, a paver patio or flagstone patio usually sits over gravel and sand, are considered “temporary” improvements, and rarely require permits. To be safe, you should always ask your building department or your patio company if a permit will be necessary.

Cobblestone is just one of many driveway materials. Other, more economical, albeit less elaborate options include concrete, asphalt, and gravel. 

If you want a material that most closely resembles cobblestone, your best option is bricks or pavers. Both cost anywhere from $10 to $50 per square foot and can be laid in all kinds of patterns. Depending on the type of paver you choose, you can also get a good bang for your buck by investing in durable natural stone.

It depends on whether you’re looking at residential or commercial buildings. For residential buildings, the 2018 International Residential Code asks for a maximum riser (or rise) height of 7 3/4 inches and a minimum tread depth (or run) of 10 inches.

For fixed stairs in commercial buildings, OSHA requires a rise between 6 and 7.5 inches, with a run between 10 and 14 inches. The standards are different for spiral staircases.

Most professionals will take two to three weeks to install a patio and return your yard to its previous condition. The timeline for your patio installation will depend on several factors, though, including landscaping features your installer needs to navigate around, the type of patio you’re having installed, and how long any add-ons, like outdoor kitchens, take to complete. The size of your patio will also play a role in how long it takes, so plan to keep pets and children out of your yard for longer if you’re installing an oversized patio.
