"Install seemed to go OK, crew was great - only reason I?m giving two stars. Communication with this company was horrendous. Scheduling my initial measurements was hilarious, because their staff doesn?t understand that I work on call and my schedule can change - I would give them at least 24 hours notice in the event I needed to reschedule (which is 26 hours more notice than they gave me). The grumpy old lady that handles the scheduling gave me attitude over it - the idea that I could POSSIBLY need to reschedule - like it was the biggest inconvenience of her day, and almost lost my business right then. Stupidly, I brushed off her attitude and incompetence, and decided to proceed since I had a signed contract anyway. They were supposed to show up between 8am-12pm - waited till 10am (after I took the day off work and lost several hundred dollars) to tell me the crew couldn?t make it, and rescheduled me TWO WEEKS OUT. At this point, we?re heading into frigid temps and snow, and my broke"

Barn doors are in style due to the popularity of modern farmhouse and rustic interior designs. As with any trend, barn doors could fall out of popularity over time. That's why it's important to determine if you like the function and style of barn doors for your home. They can add character to a room and save on floor space, but aren’t right for everyone.

You want plenty of room between your pre-hung door and the framing in your wall to allow for shimming to get the door into the perfect position, so aim for about 1 inch on the top and both sides. That means you should make your rough opening about 1 inch taller and 2 inches wider than your pre-hung door. You’ll then use shims to stabilize and level the door before installing it.

Your front door should only need replacing every 20 to 40 years, depending on the material and level of wear and tear. Sometimes a door will need replacing sooner due to extreme weather conditions, like a hurricane or storm. In other cases, you may want to upgrade your door to add some upgraded curb appeal—especially when prepping your home for sale.

You put shims between the three-sided frame to which the door hinges are attached and the framing of the rough wall opening. Using shims like this will center your door in the wall opening and allows you to make small adjustments to get your door plumb and level for smooth operation. Your shims and the gap they fill will be covered when you install door trim, so don’t worry too much about the appearance.

Solid wood is a durable and attractive option for cabinet doors that holds up well against a small amount of moisture. However, solid wood doors will expand and contract, meaning upkeep will be necessary if painted. Particleboard with veneer cabinet doors are cost-effective and can be attractive. MDF cabinet doors offer excellent and predictable workability features. However, both of those options are vulnerable to damage if water finds its way through the veneer or paint finish.
