"This contractor was amazing. This is just one of the many projects he has done in my home. Communication has been on point. The work that has been done is top notch. He was always on time and available to answer my questions. The price point for projects was well with in my range. His willingness to work with me and making changes to the plan was great."

"My husband and I had spent 13 years remodeling our 1873 house by ourselves. When it came time to do our dream project of adding a sunroom, finding a contractor to do the work instead of doing it ourselves was a very important decision to us. We met with several contractors and knew instantly that John and his son Nate at Addition Doctors were the people we wanted taking on this project. John and Nate were so great to work with. They were the only company we met with who gave us a computer generated model of what the project would look like so we had a very clear vision of the end product. They were the only company to quote us the project under the budget we told them we had to work with. They kept us up to date at every step of the project and there were never any surprises about cost or timing. They had great ideas for the project when we weren't exactly sure what should or could be done. We love our finished sunroom. The quality of work and service they gave was excellent. We would highly recommend Addition Doctors for anyone who is looking to have quality work done to their home."

"Working with Timberbrook has been a great experience. They have been working on a 650+ square foot two story addition and renovation to my 1910 home. As with any work on a home that age and a project that size it hasn't been without its surprises. Timberbrook communicates changes and progress in a timely manner. The quality of their build is top notch. I've had friends in the construction industry stop by and comment on the foundation and frame work, then again on the finished work. They did a great job ensuring the exterior matched the 100+ year old aesthetic of the house. The co-owner and designer has helped us put together vision boards and 3-d mock ups of the spaces so we could make design decision. The lead builder, Tyler, has been open to feedback and minor changes to plans and finishes along the way. I would highly recommend Timberbrook for just about anything. Before going with Timberbrook we had one other company, very reputable, that we got a quote from -Timberbrook was a MUCH better (lower) estimate and we've stayed well within their bid. Their subs (they don't use many) are really great too. Magic Electric with Angus -highly recommend."

Pole Barn Builders questions, answered by experts

Rather than using a common two-by-four piece of wood for a rafter, you probably will use two-by-six, two-by-eight, two-by-ten, or even two-by-twelve boards. Wider lumber is typically a better choice in a larger building as it provides more sturdiness. Some installers may use wider lumber for rafters near the edges of the roof, where the greatest stress occurs, and save money with narrower lumber toward the middle.

Pole barns and carports are similar in that they rely on posts for support and are often not connected to a primary structure. The main difference between the two is that pole barns usually include walls that surround the entire perimeter of the structure, while carports generally remain open on three or four sides. It’s possible to insulate garage doors and even exterior walls on pole barns to create a comfortable workspace, and it’s a bit more secure for storage purposes. However, carports are more affordable.

Concrete blocks are the cheapest way to base a shed. However, the space in between allows critters to go under, burrow, and even damage your shed’s frame. For a more pest-proof option, consider building a shed base with gravel or paver stones. Both options are fairly affordable and easy enough for a DIY project. For gravel, you can build a wooden frame to contain the loose material.

It is recommended that you check with your local building official on barn building requirements and rules, since size restrictions vary greatly from region to region based on what your property is zoned for. Some cities limit barn construction depending on if your property is residential or commercial. The three main factors your building commission will evaluate are:

  • Height and lot coverage: How tall your barn is and how much of your total property it occupies

  • Setback: Distance between barn and property line

  • Easement: Legal right for another owner to access another’s property

Building a treehouse can vary in difficulty depending on factors such as design complexity, size, and the builder’s woodworking experience. Basic treehouses with simple designs can be manageable for DIYers with some carpentry skills, while more elaborate structures may pose challenges. Adequate planning, research, and careful execution can make the process more manageable, and resources like premade plans or professional assistance are always available for additional support.
