At T's Turf Cuts our services include mowing, spring clean up, fall clean up, mulch installation, snow removal, gutter cleaning, and pressure washing. We don't try to sell our customers on anything you don't want. If the property does not need serviced, the customer does not get billed. Edging and trimming along all concrete services are done weekly. We strive to meet all our customer's needs. T's Turf Cuts is located in Monticello, IA. We are a small but growing company. I have been in this line of work since 2012. In May of 2021 we decided to start our own business.

Our company provides quality work at competitive prices. There are some areas of yard care we don't do like fertilizer and irrigation but have professional subcontracters that handle these areas for us.

Mulch and Topsoil questions, answered by experts

The most important thing to put under a rock garden is the appropriate soil. The specific soil needed will depend on the type of plants you’re growing as well as the environment you live in. You can also put non-woven or woven fabric under the rocks to add to the garden's structural stability.

If you decide to DIY your boulder removal project, you’ll want to wear work gloves and protect your eyes if you decide to break the boulder into smaller pieces. Wear a lifting harness and focus on lifting with your legs to prevent back injuries. If you’re digging around a large boulder or using heavy machinery to get underneath it, make sure there are no utility lines nearby.

There are several reasons your grass may be dying that could be in or out of your control. The most common issues include poor drainage, under/overwatering, poor soil pH, low soil nutrients, low sunlight, or too much foot traffic.

The best time to lay mulch depends on the type of mulch and the reason for installing it:

  • Summer: Adding extra mulch helps soil retain moisture and keeps weeds at bay, allowing plants to thrive.

  • Fall: Adding mulch helps control weeds and keeps soil and roots warm during the cooler months. Aim to add a layer of mulch 2 to 4 inches deep.

  • Winter: Mulch around perennial plants to help keep them insulated.

  • Spring: Wait until the ground has thawed. Depending on the thickness, add between 1 and 4 inches of mulch to provide freeze and rain protection and enrich the soil.

Durable materials suited for climate include aluminum for coastal areas or composite wood in varying environments for durability and minimal upkeep.
