"We needed some drywall work done and H Drywall was one of three companies I contacted for estimates. They were the middle bidder, but I was so impressed with Harry’s (the”H” in H Drywall) on-site visit and his comprehensive proposal that I decided to go with them. I was not disappointed because Harry keeps on top of things and is quick to reply to messages. A bonus was their online payment system which is really convenient and provided instant confirmation of a payment. What truly makes this company worthy of a 5-star rating though are its employees. John, the foreman, is easy to talk to and has so much experience in construction that he solved any problems or challenges that occurred. He always kept us informed of their progress and made sure we were happy with the work they were doing. The rest of the crew Stuart, Derek, Chris, and Evan were all friendly, courteous (always aware that we still lived in the home), and did excellent work. Drywall replacement is messy, but these guys covered everything including the floors and they vacumed daily. The drywall removal uncovered some additional work that needed to be done and H Drywall provided a reasonable estimate to fix the problem. We also had them paint the living room, dining room, and kitchen areas. Thank you Evan for helping us choose the right color! It will usually take a professional painter between three and four hours to paint a stairway; if you’re DIY-ing, plan to spend between four and six hours, depending on the difficulty of your project and the size of your hallway or foyer.

You can paint over cracked paint, but only if you properly sand down the damaged areas. Once the surface is as smooth as you can get it, clean the walls and let them dry before applying a new coat of paint. Painting over cracked paint without sanding or cleaning beforehand will not cover up the cracks and may even make them look worse.

Magnetic paint is only available in dark gray or black because of the iron dust particles mixed through it. If your heart is set on a less-gloomy shade, add a top coat or two of other latex or chalkboard paint. But adding more than two top coats will degrade the magnetic properties. Dark top coats work better than light shades, as the black or gray magnetic paint is less likely to peek through.

While no-VOC paints don’t contain the chemical compounds that are toxic when they’re outgassed, they can still have an odor. This is because odors can come from other chemicals in the paint that aren’t classified as VOCs. Again, ventilation is key, especially if you plan to sleep in the room on the same day as you paint.

While the answer varies based on weather, 10 a.m. is a good time to start painting. The dew will have dried, meaning there’s no moisture on the house, and the temperature will likely be moderate and the sunlight less direct. Starting mid-morning should also give you enough daylight and pleasant weather to work on the job for several hours.
