"Project: Stone-Paver Retaining Wall Peachtwins Landscapes LLC. Owner: Darrell Thrasher I Rate Them: 5 Stars .. Only Because 10 was not an option. I hired Peachtwins Landscapes to remove and built me a new Retaining Wall. The current wall was 105 ft. Long and 4 ft. High, we were replacing it with Stones Pavers. The current wall was made of cross ties and it was failing apart. Darrell and his team came in and got right to work removing the old wall. Most estimates from other contractors said it would take 4 to 5 days to complete the entire job. They needed to schedule a dumpster to be delivered and schedule the Stones to be delivered to my house as well. That could take about 3 to 5 days along, the workers would come day or two after that. So, based on that information my job would really take about 2 weeks. Darrell had his own Equipment; A couple of trucks full of tools. A truck and trailer for his own Bobcat. A truck to haul away the old bad wood as the guys removed it. ( NO DUMPSTER WAS NEEDED, this saved me about $600 -$900 along ) Peachtwins / Darrell and his team had the Stones-Pavers delivered within 2 days of us agreeing on the job. It rained pretty good the day before I expected him to call and say they had to wait a day or so before the work could start. But they arrived the VERY NEXT DAY at 8:30 ready to work and they did just that. Day-1. Removed all of the Old Wood, hauled it away and started putting the new wall up. ( about 40 ft ) was completed. Day-2. They showed up again about 8:30 am and picked up where they left the day before. Again the wall was 105 ft. long. They completed the Entire Stone Wall on the Second day, Cleaned up.. Pressured Washed the Driveway and the Street in front of my home. They did an AWESOME JOB !! The workers were GREAT !! Super Great Experience,"

"I want to express my sincere appreciation for the outstanding work and true professionalism shown by A1 Asphalt Paving & Seal Coating. Mr. Ezekiel George and his expert team truly went above and beyond at my property — they made the impossible possible. I didn’t have the full budget to completely pave my jagged, worn-out driveway, but the compassionate team at A1 Asphalt was incredibly understanding and sympathetic to my situation. Ezekiel and his dad (Jerry) personally worked with me to create a custom plan that delivered exactly what I needed — all while staying well within my means. They even offered a flexible payment plan to ease the financial pressure. From start to finish, the crew was fast, diligent, and highly skilled. They kept me informed every step of the way and only asked for payment once the job was complete and I was fully satisfied. A week later, after some heavy rain, I noticed a small blemish. I called Ezekiel and received an immediate, friendly response. He promptl"

"Georgis Best Concrete, LLC completely replaced my driveway, sidewalk and front steps yesterday. Their work is absolute perfection! Chris Tamayo (owner) explained clearly what would be done and quoted a great price for complete removal and replacement of an old driveway, sidewalk and front steps. The team he sent was amazing - they are professional and definitely expert at concrete installation. Every team member worked carefully and diligently to compete the job. Chris was here working with them to inspect and approve the installation. I could not be happier with my new driveway, sidewalk and steps!! If you need any concrete work done I highly recommend Georgia Best Concrete, LLC!!"

"This was by far the best experience using a company I had no prior knowledge of. The owner was very professional and accurate in his assessment of my paving job. His crew worked super fast and thanks to them we are now able to use our garage right in time for the colder temps."

Asphalt Driveways questions, answered by experts

Concrete is typically the best material for a driveway if you’re looking for longevity, cost-effectiveness, and ease of maintenance. But, it’s not ideal for areas with annual freeze-frost cycles, nor is it the most attractive option—although you can get it stamped or painted. If your location is consistently below freezing, asphalt may be a better choice.

New asphalt goes through two stages: drying and curing. Drying typically takes 24 to 72 hours, after which the surface is solid enough for light use like walking or careful driving. While you may be able to park on it after 72 hours, the surface is still soft and should be treated gently. Full curing is a much longer process, taking anywhere from 30 days to a full year for the asphalt to reach maximum strength. During this extended curing period, the asphalt is susceptible to damage from heavy vehicles, sharp objects, and high temperatures. Factors like weather, the specific asphalt mix, and application thickness all influence drying and curing times. For the most accurate timeline and to ensure the longevity of your new asphalt, it is always best to consult with your installation contractor for their specific recommendations.

Common alternatives to a gravel driveway include concrete, asphalt, brick, stone pavers, and permeable pavers. Concrete and asphalt are generally the most affordable options. However, concrete can be prone to cracking in cold climates, while asphalt may soften in areas with high heat and direct sun exposure. For enhanced curb appeal, brick, stone, and permeable pavers are popular choices, though their installation can be more expensive due to intricate designs. Stone pavers offer a natural look and are sometimes installed with gravel around them. Both permeable pavers and brick driveways provide excellent drainage, which helps prevent flooding and reduce water runoff.

Gravel is one of the few driveway materials that can handle rain the second it’s installed. Unlike asphalt, which needs days to set, or concrete, which requires weeks to cure, gravel is ready as soon as it’s compacted. It’s naturally permeable, allowing water to drain straight through—with no risk of pooling or surface damage. Gravel driveways are one of the most affordable, at $1 to $3 per square foot, and can also last upward of 100 years.

Asphalt driveways are affordable and able to withstand sub-zero temperatures. The asphalt surface makes it easy to plow snow, and it has excellent traction for slippery winter days. Another benefit: it absorbs heat from the sun and can then help to melt snow and ice more quickly than other surfaces.
