"Replaced comparatively new but oddly burned out central vacuum that had very little use .. It was poorly matched to my average size home. He also installed a couple of new hoses & attachments for me. Top notch work but apparently has over 20yrs experience with these systems. Highly recommended !"

"I called Pillar and they answered immediately. I asked them to schedule a service call for a check-up for my office unit. Quinton came out professional dressed came right in and got started. He told me he would recommend the service plan for my business so they could keep an eye on my unit to reduce any breakdowns. I was very impressed about his professionalism and knowledge of the equipment. I now have a peace of mind getting ready for the summer months Bill Roberts CEO Bill Roberts Electrical, Inc. "Terrance is an exceptional provider of service. Mannerisms is above, and beyond normal expectations. His knowledge of his area of expertise (air conditioning repairs) is 120%. I'm a stickler for punctual when it comes to being on time. Mr Terrance was right on point. He shared with us the cause & effect of our air conditioners troubles. He replaced the capacitor and immediately we felt comfort. Mr. Terrance is coming back 8/29/23 to work on the upstairs air conditioner. I believe Mr Terrance is an honest upstanding professional gentleman."

Install Central Vacuum questions, answered by experts

Technically, yes, you could install a central vacuum system on your own, but it is a very difficult DIY. There is a significant amount of planning, cutting into walls, and electrical wiring work that goes into it, which should only be performed by a professional. Because of the difficulty and expense associated with a central vacuum system, it’s worth it to hire a professional company familiar with the installation's complexities.

No. Only the hose or the attachments are portable in a central vacuum system. A portable vacuum is a standalone model like a stick, canister, or upright. A central vacuum system is defined by a central power unit, which is installed in one place like an AC unit, and the connected network of piping to funnel the suction.

Whether talking about a whole-house central vacuum or a portable vacuum cleaner, the expected cost of major repair work should always be balanced against its replacement cost. However, excluding high-cost motor replacements or major electrical trouble, repairs on a central vacuum system are typically far less than the cost of purchasing and installing a new one.

They’ll use more electricity than the average upright vacuum, but not remarkably more. Most power units plug into a standard 120-volt outlet and don’t have significant power demands. You shouldn’t notice an increase in electricity bills. If you have any specific questions about energy costs, ask your installer as you examine purchase decisions. Larger power units will need more electricity for their suction levels.

Yes, installing a central vacuum system typically adds value to your home. The ease of use, longevity, and superior suction power of a central vacuum system can add up to $2,000 to your home’s value if you decide to sell. Potential buyers may consider the central vacuum a perk to purchasing your home.
