"Glenn from Cyr Welding went above and beyond fixing my stairs! He offered various solutions to fix my metal stairs. I appreciated an honest welder who tried the cheapest route for me first before having to succumb to a more expensive route. He was also happy to help with additional non stair related projects I needed help. Also he is a pleasant guy to be around and explained every step of the way and make sure I was esthetically ok with it. Thank you so much for all of your extensive work with me on a holiday weekend!"

"I remodeled my apartment and replaced the tile on my east and west balcony. The company that did the project removed the railings and would not re-install them. I found Jason's company, who came right over and took on the project. He installed all of the railings and made sure they were reinforced and secure. He did such a good job, that I had him customize a railing in front of a spiral staircase going up to my rooftop. He did an excellent job. He also sanded and powder-coated my spiral staircase and added non-slip treads to each step for added safety. A major improvement. Lastly, my fire door entry to the laundry room would not close. I had 2 different people try to adjust the door to close properly. I was told the door needed to be replaced. I showed it to Jason and his father and they told me they could fix it. They did! My experience with Jason was excellent! He is professional, punctual, quick turn-around, and is solution oriented. He has a nice attitude and he says what he does. I highly recommend Almonte and plan on using him again!"

Welding questions, answered by experts

Since water heaters are primarily made of metal, they’re commonly accepted by scrap yards and collectors. Don’t expect to fetch a high price, though—water heaters are mostly steel and aluminum, which aren’t high-value metals. Some components are made of more valuable metals, like brass and copper, but they’re a small portion of the heater and won’t affect the price much.

This all depends on the tools you have on hand and whether you’re trying to cut a straight line or shapes.

The best tool to use for straight lines is either a circular saw or table saw. When cutting shapes, a jigsaw will be the easiest and most precise tool to use.

The cost to weld aluminum averages about $14 to $22 per pound. The type of metal factors into the overall cost of any welding project due to the cost of the materials and the expertise required to work with it. Some of the most common metals used by welders include:

  • Magnesium alloy: $7–$16 per pound

  • Low-carbon steel: $11–$12 per pound

  • Stainless steel: $13–$15 per pound

  • Copper/brass: $24–$29 per pound

  • Cast iron: $38–$79 per pound

  • Titanium: $60–$85 per pound

To maintain custom or fabricated metal structures and extend their lifespan and appearance, perform regular cleaning, apply rust prevention treatments, and use protective coatings.

Cutting rectangular ductwork requires careful measurements and the right technique. Use a measuring tape and pencil to mark the cutting lines accurately. Tin snips are excellent for straight cuts on smaller ducts. For more extensive or thicker rectangular ducts, a reciprocating saw with a metal-cutting blade is effective.

Ensure the duct is well-supported and secure while cutting to prevent wobbling and maintain precision. After cutting, use a metal file to smooth any sharp edges, ensuring safety during installation.
