"Dan at Coastline was extremely prompt and professional. When I had questions he had answers, we had several quotes and went with Coastline for their product offering and commitment to us as the customer. You wont find anyone better to work with than Dan at Coastline."

"Sandy (owner of the company) was very on top of our project. We had an opening cut out of a load bearing wall. It was very large opening and the wall was stabilized for continued support of our home. Very well done. The project did require more time and our home was protected as much as possible from construction dust . My only suggestion is for Sandy to have an electrician that she has trust in and a working relationship. Respectfully Deb W"

"Excellent sales rep and install teams. Their big competitive advantage is that they have an expert electrician who handles the motor s electrical connection as the first stage of the motorized awning install process. In my case this involved going behind the siding and up into the overhang soffit, thus keeping the new receptacle and the motor s cords out of the elements and out of sight. Soon after that work was done the awning team arrived on a different day to do the awning install itself. It was well worth the higher cost of the Great Outdoors awning to have the required electrical work included in the quote. ( Another awning vendor gave me a lower purchase/install quote but I would have had to find and hire an electrician myself and then try to coordinate timing and other details between the parties.) I preferred the Great Outdoors comprehensive business model and was pleased with their team s expertise, professionalism and promptness. It was a pleasure working with them. And I love my awning."

Awnings questions, answered by experts

Awnings offer a variety of materials to choose from, each of which has its own benefits. Cotton is a lower-cost option that’s also more eco-friendly because it’s made from natural materials, while acrylic-coated polyester and vinyl offer better durability against harsh weather. Fiberglass and metal are also resilient to weather, although metal can be vulnerable to corrosion without protective sealant. Ultimately, you’ll need to consider your climate and your budget in deciding the best material for your awning.

Acrylic, polyester, and vinyl are common options. Choose based on durability, UV resistance, and style.

Yes, you can install an awning yourself, and it can be an excellent DIY project with immediate benefits. This is most feasible for smaller, pre-assembled units. However, awnings are often heavy and awkward for one person to handle, so you should always have at least one helper. If you have difficulty lifting heavy objects, professional installation is recommended to ensure proper mounting and durability.

The longest-lasting awning materials include vinyl, polycarbonate, and polyester for their durability and cleanability. Other materials like canvas and metal can last a long time, but may wear out faster. The key to getting the longest life from your awning material is to maintain it properly by cleaning yearly, keeping debris from gathering on it, and protecting it during stormy weather or high winds by retracting it or moving it to a protected area.

It’s not a good idea to allow heavy rain to fall on your awning, as puddling can occur and overload the awning. Your awning should be able to handle a light rain, though you should allow it to dry out before retracting it or open it to dry as soon as the rain stops. As always, consult manufacturer guidelines for using and caring for your awning.
