"The contractor we hired to do the work went out of business without telling us and we were stuck. Brian to the rescue. Even though our roof was much steeper than he usually works on he agreed to replace the glass in our three skylights. He did an excellent job and I couldn't be more thrilled. "A1 did a great job on my new roof and gutters. Clearly defined scope of work, prompt and flexible scheduling, used high-quality shingles with a good warranty. Using an ice and water shield underlayment under a metal roof is a good way to protect the roof and your home from damage in colder climates that see a lot of winter weather. Traditional underlayment isn’t effective underneath a metal roof, though, so be sure to install one specifically made for metal roofs to get the best protection.

The common formula for measuring a roof is length x width equals square footage. Professional roofers measure the length and width of your roof, including dormers, and determine its pitch and rafter sizes. If a roof surface is a triangle, they’ll divide that square footage by two, then add up the square footage of each surface to get the total for the roof.

Underlayment is used between existing shingles and a new metal roof to prevent friction and wear from the shingle granules on the underside of the metal. The underlayment also helps prevent water intrusion and allows expansion and contraction without wearing away at the roofing material.

Manufacturers, insurance companies, and municipality regulations are phasing out three-tab shingles. Because of their short lifespan and lack of durability compared to other roofing material types, manufacturers are leaning toward better products, and cities and insurers are starting to require better building materials overall. However, 3-tab shingles are still for sale, and some roofing companies still install them.
